Arctic rivers may be the largest net sources of mercury (Hg) to the Arctic Ocean, yet riverine sources of Hg remain poorly characterized compared to atmospheric processes. This article reviews the current state of knowledge on Hg inputs to the Mackenzie River and Valley in Northern Canada from six point and non-point sources. Point sources include the locations of mines, fossil fuel extraction facilities, and retrogressive permafrost thaw slumps.

Efficacy of melatonin treatment in a cystic fibrosis mouse model of airway infection.

Approaches to mitigate the severity of infections and of immune responses are still needed for the treatment of cystic fibrosis (CF) even with the success of highly effective modulator therapies. Previous studies identified reduced levels of melatonin in a CF mouse model related to circadian rhythm dysregulation. Melatonin is known to have immunomodulatory properties and it was hypothesized that treatment with melatonin would improve responses to bacterial infection in CF mice.

We introduce regularised diffusion-shock (RDS) inpainting as a modification of diffusion-shock inpainting from our SSVM 2023 conference paper. RDS inpainting combines two carefully chosen components: homogeneous diffusion and coherence-enhancing shock filtering. It benefits from the complementary synergy of its building blocks: The shock term propagates edge data with perfect sharpness and directional accuracy over large distances due to its high degree of anisotropy.

Proximity labeling proteomics (PLP) strategies are powerful approaches to yield snapshots of protein neighborhoods. Here, we describe a multiscale PLP method with adjustable resolution that uses a commercially available photocatalyst, Eosin Y, which upon visible light illumination activates different photo-probes with a range of labeling radii. We applied this platform to profile neighborhoods of the oncogenic epidermal growth factor receptor and orthogonally validated more than 20 neighbors using immunoassays and AlphaFold-Multimer prediction.
