Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) is a promising technology for the conversion of high-moisture biomass into a liquid biofuel precursor without predrying treatment. This study investigated the effects of the heating rate (20-110 °C/min) and feedstock composition on phase repartition of the HTL products. Common variable immune deficiency (CVID) is a heterogeneous disorder characterized by recurrent infections, low levels of serum immunoglobulins, and impaired vaccine responses. Autoimmune manifestations are common, but B cell central and peripheral selection mechanisms in CVID are incompletely understood. Here, we find that receptor editing, a measure of central tolerance, is increased in transitional B cells from CVID patients and that these cells have a higher immunoglobulin κ:λ ratio in CVID patients with autoimmune manifestations than in those with infection only.

In this study, a review of second-generation voltage conveyor (VCII) and current conveyor (CCII) circuits for the conditioning of bio signals and sensors is presented. The CCII is the most known current-mode active block, able to overcome some of the limitations of the classical operational amplifier, which provides an output current instead of a voltage. The VCII is nothing more than the dual of the CCII, and for this reason it enjoys almost all the properties of the CCII but also provides an easy-to-read voltage as an output signal.

Cancer cells are able to release high amounts of extracellular vesicles, thereby conditioning the normal cells in the surrounding tissue and/or in distant target organs. In the context of bone cancers, previous studies suggested that osteosarcoma cancer cells produce transforming extracellular vesicles able to induce a tumour-like phenotype in normal recipient cells. Indeed, phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C (PI-PLC) enzymes are differentially expressed in osteosarcoma cell lines with increasing aggressiveness, thus providing helpful insights to better define their role and functions in this bone tumour.

Memory B cells (MBCs) epitomize the adaptation of the immune system to the environment. We identify two MBC subsets in peripheral blood, CD27 and CD27 MBCs, whose frequency changes with age. Heavy chain variable region (VH) usage, somatic mutation frequency replacement-to-silent ratio, and CDR3 property changes, reflecting consecutive selection of highly antigen-specific, low cross-reactive antibody variants, all demonstrate that CD27 and CD27 MBCs represent sequential MBC developmental stages, and stringent antigen-driven pressure selects CD27 into the CD27 MBC pool.

Hydrothermal liquefaction of oak wood was carried out in tubular micro reactors at different temperatures (280-330 °C), reaction times (10-30 min), and catalyst loads (10-50 wt%) using metallic Ni catalysts. For the first time, to enhance the catalytic activity of Ni particles, a coating technique producing a nanostructured surface was used, maintaining anyway the micrometric dimension of the catalyst, necessary for an easier recovery. The optimum conditions for non-catalytic liquefaction tests were determined to be 330 °C and 10 min with the bio-crude yield of 32.

Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone cancer and the most frequent cause of bone cancer-related deaths in children and adolescents. Switched and IgM memory B cells execute different and noninterchangeable functions. We studied memory B cells in children of different ages, in peripheral blood and spleen and compared them with those of children born asplenic or unable to build germinal centers. We show that, whereas switched memory B cells are mostly generated in the germinal centers at all ages, IgM memory B cells can be distinct in three types with different developmental history.
