Cellular senescence is a diverse phenotype characterised by permanent cell cycle arrest and an associated secretory phenotype (SASP) which includes inflammatory cytokines. Typically, senescent cells are removed by the immune system, but this process becomes dysregulated with age causing senescent cells to accumulate and induce chronic inflammatory signalling. Identifying senescent cells is challenging due to senescence phenotype heterogeneity, and senotherapy often requires a combinatorial approach.

Skin ageing is defined, in part, by collagen depletion and fragmentation that leads to a loss of mechanical tension. This is currently believed to reflect, in part, the accumulation of senescent cells. We present a case of a 30-year-old Hispanic male with pelvic outlet obstruction syndrome secondary to a large pelvic abscess caused by Bovismorbificans. This case demonstrates a potentially serious complication of a rare foodborne illness in the United States, in which an urgent surgical intervention was warranted. A computed tomography (CT) scan of the abdomen and pelvis demonstrated a large pelvic cystic mass causing near-total pelvic outlet obstruction of both gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems.

Background: The Pragmatic, Randomized Optimal Platelets and Plasma Ratios (PROPPR) trial was a randomized clinical trial comparing survival after transfusion of two different blood component ratios for emergency resuscitation of traumatic massive hemorrhage. Transfusion services supporting the study were expected to provide thawed plasma, platelets, and red blood cells within 10 minutes of request.

A wide range of techniques has been described to achieve subtalar (talocalcaneal) arthrodesis using interfragmental screw fixation. In this technical report, we describe a method that enables us to accurately position 2 screws across the subtalar joint in order to achieve arthrodesis between the talus and calcaneus. Careful attention to the tips described in this report should minimize the risk of aberrant placement of the screws while expediting the process of osteosynthesis.

Our experience led us to test the hypothesis that lymph nodes are not uncommon within the substance of the human female breast mound. The following specimen types and sources were used to survey the presence of intramammary lymph nodes in the human female breast mound: (1) cadaver breasts; (2) community hospital breast specimens; and (3) university and VA hospital specimens. We found true lymph nodes within and associated with breast specific tissue (ie, tissue that includes duct and gland structures), thereby validating the hypothesis posed.

A survey of 21 beers produced in Spain during 1994 was conducted to assess contamination with volatile N-nitrosamines. N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), the only volatile N-nitrosamine detected, was found in 52% of Spanish beers at or above the detection level (0.05 microgram/kg).

We prospectively identified 12 patients who had a shelf at the margin of the placenta consistent with the diagnosis of circumvallate placenta. Ten patients were followed to delivery and three placentas were sent for pathologic analysis. Circumvallate placenta was diagnosed by gross inspection in all three but was confirmed by microscopic analysis in only two.
