Background: The arrhythmic burden and cardiovascular risks of cardiac amyloidosis compared with other types of restrictive cardiomyopathies (RCM), such as hemochromatosis and cardiac sarcoid, have not been well characterized in the literature. An increase in emphasis on screening has resulted in more diagnoses of cardiac amyloidosis and a larger data pool to analyze the cardiovascular outcomes of this cardiomyopathy.

Methods And Results: We queried the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database to identify all adult patients diagnosed with cardiac amyloidosis or other RCM between the years 2016 and 2019.

Background: Socioeconomic disparities have been associated with outcomes in many medical conditions. The association of socioeconomic status (SES) with readmissions after ventral and inguinal hernia repair has not been well studied on a national level. This study aims to evaluate the association of SES with readmission as a significant outcome in patients undergoing ventral and inguinal hernia repair.

Liquid biopsy testing utilising Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is rapidly moving towards clinical adoption for personalised oncology. However, before NGS can fulfil its potential any novel testing approach must identify ways of reducing errors, allowing separation of true low-frequency mutations from procedural artefacts, and be designed to improve upon current technologies. Popular NGS technologies typically utilise two DNA capture approaches; PCR and ligation, which have known limitations and seem to have reached a development plateau with only small, stepwise improvements being made.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the effectiveness and safety of endovascular therapy (ET) compared to standard medical management for patients with cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT), noting that 15% of patients still have poor outcomes despite treatment.
  • - Utilizing Nationwide Inpatient Sample data, the study analyzed treatment trends and outcomes, revealing that a small percentage of CVT cases (3%) received ET, which included various techniques such as mechanical thrombectomy and thrombolysis.
  • - Results indicated that patients undergoing ET were generally older and had more severe complications, with ET associated with a higher risk of in-hospital mortality, prompting the recommendation for future randomized trials to better assess its safety and efficacy.

Current literature regarding complications following total joint arthroplasty have primarily focused on patients with osteoarthritis (OA), with less emphasis on the trends and in-hospital outcomes of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients undergoing these procedures. The purpose of this study is to analyze the outcomes and trends of RA patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) or total hip arthroplasty (THA) compared to OA patients. Data from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample from 2006 to 2011 was extracted using the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision codes for patients that received a TKA or THA.

Hip fracture care represents a service line that profoundly affects patients' quality of life. As hospitals and physicians are motivated to improve quality, reduce costs, and maximize efficiency of care, several alignment models have been proposed under new healthcare legislation. Evaluation of such models as they pertain to hip fracture care warrants further investigation.
