Objective: Within the scope of this research, the long-term effects of experimental blunt head trauma on immature rats and MK-801 administered acutely after trauma on the brain tissue will be examined. In addition, the impact of trauma and MK-801 on Nestin and CD133, which are essential stem cells, will be evaluated by immunohistochemical and ELISA methods.
Methods: In this study, the contusion trauma model was used.

Background: Intimal hyperplasia is a normal adaptive feature of arteries in response to injuries, which include invasive vascular interventions. Its development limits the long-term success of bypass grafts. Various pharmacological agents have been successfully employed in experimental models to reduce the degree of intimal hyperplasia.

Purpose: The aim of our study is to investigate the effects of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) therapy on retinal layers in healthy eyes.
Method: Thirty patients who were taken to outpatient HBO2 for any indication were included in the study. All patients underwent 10 sessions of HBO2; 20 healthy patients were taken as the control group.
Background: The most worrisome complications in patients supported by left ventricular assist device (LVAD) are pump thrombosis, embolism, and bleeding. The actual rate of these events in patients with sickle-cell disease (SCD) has not well investigated. The aim of our study is to evaluate the outcomes of LVAD implantation in patients with sickle-cell hemoglobinopathy at our institution.

Methods: The first patient who was a 63-year-old female patient with a history of multiple bilateral arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) was referred to our clinic. Physical examination demonstrated a functioning right brachio-cephalic AVF, with severe edema of the right arm, dilated venous collaterals, facial edema, and unilateral breast enlargement.

Introduction: The aim of this study is to present a series of six cases with thoracoabdominal aneurysm treated with hybrid technique in our center.
Methods: Between May 2015 and December 2018, the data of six patients with thoracoabdominal aneurysms and various comorbidities who underwent visceral debranching followed by endovascular aortic aneurysm repair were reviewed retrospectively.
Results: Patients' mean age was 65.

Objectives: To reveal the risk situations of ROP patients in terms of hearing loss by examining the newborn hearing screening test results.
Methods: Hearing screening test results of ROP patients and newborns with similar congenital risk factors(control group) treated in our hospital were retrospectively screened. Both groups were compared in terms of newborn hearing screening test results.

Background And Objective: To investigate the reliability and quality of vitreoretinal surgery videos posted on YouTube.
Patients And Methods: A search was made using the keywords "vitrectomy," "retinal surgery," and "vitreoretinal surgery" on YouTube. Total view counts, numbers of comments, likes and dislikes, publishing dates, and source of videos were recorded.
Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a flavoring substance added to many ready-to-eat foods and has known neurotoxic effects. This study was performed in order to examine the potential toxic effect of MSG on neurons in various regions of the hippocampus in prepubertal rats. It also investigated the protective effect of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) on brain-derived neurotropic factor (BDNF), -methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDA-R), and neuropeptide-Y (NPY) expression in the brain, using immunohistochemical and biochemical methods.

Objective: To investigate whether dry eye disease (DED) is a risk factor for COVID-19.
Method: In this retrospective cohort study, patients who were diagnosed with DED by an ophthalmologist and whose Schirmer test was less than 5mm were identified. Patients who missed follow-up examinations, patients with malignancy, Human Immunodeficiency Virus patients and patients having undergone bone marrow transplantation were excluded.
Because brain development continues during adolescence, childhood trauma is a major health problem in pediatric ages. It is known traumatic brain injury (TBI) results in damage in hippocampal and cortical areas of the brain and impairs cognitive functions. The study aims to investigate the long-term effects of MK-801 (dizocilpine), an N-methyl d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist, on hippocampal damage, locomotor activity, and cognitive functions following TBI in immature rats.

Introduction: Patients experience muscle, joint and shoulder pain after heart surgery. We aimed to compare quality of life in 2 groups of patients, one group having an internal mammary artery (IMA) retractor during surgery, the second group undergoing non-coronary heart surgery.
Material And Methods: Group 1 was composed of 39 patients receiving an IMA retractor whereas in group 2 there were 29 patients.
Aortic aneurysms are a rare condition in children. Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome is a primary immunodeficiency characterized by infections, thrombocytopenia, and eczema. Aortitis and aneurysm formation seem to be progressive in patients with Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome.

Cardiovascular involvement may lead to life-threatening aortic pathologies including aneurysms and/or dissections. In this report, the authors present images of a patient with Marfan syndrome with a history of Bentall-De Bono procedure followed by aortic arch and infrarenal aortoiliac replacements who strongly refused conventional open repair and underwent abdominal debranching followed by thoracoabdominal endovascular stent grafting for the treatment of thoracoabdominal aneurysm.

Adequate cerebral perfusion is essential and near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) can measure cerebral oxygenation. Aim of this study is to compare incidence of early and late postoperative cognitive dysfunction in elderly patients treated with conventional or near infrared spectroscopy monitoring.

Objective: Healing of the uterus after cesarean section and myomectomy operation is clinically important. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of resveratrol (3,5,4'-o-trihydroxystilbene) on the wound healing process of the uterus in rats treated with resveratrol following full thickness injury of the uterus.
Materials And Methods: Twenty-one female wistar albino rats were divided randomly into three groups (1) control group with no intervention (2) injury group with uterine full thickness injury (3) resveratrol group with uterine full thickness injury and treated with resveratrol.
Atherosclerosis is a systemic disease, and multiarterial involvement is common. Involvement of all the supra-aortic arteries may occur in the same patient making cerebral revascularization challenging. In this report, we present complete supra-aortic revascularization, that is, revascularization of the bilateral common carotid and subclavian arteries in a 51-year-old male patient with occluded brachiocephalic trunk, left subclavian artery, and proximally stenotic left common carotid artery.

Objective: Nesfatin-1, an anorexigenic neuropeptide, is expressed mainly in the central nervous system and in some peripheral tissues. The role of nesfatin-1 in energy balance has been investigated. Despite the suggestion of a role for nesfatin-1 in reproductive function, data are limited on the role of nesfatin-1 in human puberty.

Complications including graft thrombosis and infection are well known; however, aneurysm formation is extremely rare. In this report, we describe dilatation of a Dacron graft detected four years after aortobifemoral bypass procedure in a 50-year-old male patient who was treated with endovascular stent grafting.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTreatment of thoracic aortic aneurysms constitutes high mortality and morbidity rates despite improvements in surgery, anesthesia, and technology. Endovascular stent grafting may be an alternative therapy with lower risks when compared with conventional techniques. However, sometimes the branches of the aortic arch may require transport to the proximal segments prior to successful thoracic aortic endovascular stent grafting.
