Management of hypertrophic femoral diaphyseal nonunion due to sclerotic bone formation (corticalization) at the intramedullary nail tip after dynamization.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the presence of the "cortex sign" (corticalization) in femoral diaphysis fractures determined by the dynamization of nails because of delayed union. The study included 12 patients with a closed transverse femoral fracture (AO 32a3) treated with dynamization (all the screws distal of the nail were removed) because of delayed healing and followed up for at least 2 years. These patients were evaluated for the presence of bone union, cortex-like sclerosis (corticalization) distal to the nail, and the distance of the corticalization from the joint during follow- up after dynamization.

The effect of degenerative scoliosis and spinopelvic parameters on dislocation of hip hemiarthroplasty.

Background: Degeneration of the spine may affect pelvic parameters and hip mobility. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of degenerative scoliosis and spinopelvic parameters on hip hemiarthroplasty dislocations.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent hemiarthroplasty for intracapsular hip fracture over a twenty-year period.

Association of Medicaid expansion with birth outcomes: evidence from a natural experiment in Texas.

Background: Empirical evidence on the effects of Medicaid expansion is mixed and highly state-dependent. The objective of this study is to examine the association of Medicaid expansion with preterm birth and low birth weight, which are linked to a higher risk of infant mortality and chronic health conditions throughout life, providing evidence from a non-expansion state, overall and by race/ethnicity.

Methods: We used the newborn patient records obtained from Texas Public Use Data Files from 2010 to 2019 for hospitals in Texarkana, which is located on the border of Texas and Arkansas, with all of the hospitals serving pregnancy and childbirth patients on the Texas side of the border.

Highly sensitive rapid determination of orotic acid in urine samples using a field-amplified sample stacking approach in capillary electrophoresis coupled with contactless conductivity detection.

Orotic aciduria is a severe, hereditary, life-threatening condition, particularly in newborns. An increased orotic acid (OA) content in urine may be a strong indicator of this condition. In this study, we developed a rapid, simple, highly sensitive diagnostic method for use in monitoring the OA levels in urine samples, which were successfully determined using capillary electrophoresis combined with capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection (CE-CD).

Intramedullary Fibular Fixation in One-Stage Ankle Fracture Surgery With Soft Tissue Damage: A Study of 19 Cases.

This study investigates the efficacy of one-stage surgical intramedullary fibular fixation in managing ankle fractures with associated soft tissue damage. Ankle fractures, often encountered, can lead to complications when coupled with soft tissue injury. Traditional plate and screw fixation can exacerbate infection risks and reduce wound healing.

Evaluation and Management of Idiopathic Unilateral Footdrop.

Background: We evaluated patients who were followed after acutely developing single-sided footdrop and improving with conservative management or spontaneously.

Methods: In 2019 and 2020, ten patients were retrospectively evaluated for unilateral weakness of the lower extremity in the form of absent dorsiflexion at the ankle joint and were given a diagnosis of footdrop without etiologic cause. Patients were followed for 18 months.

Objectives: Performing orthopedic surgery in and out of working hours may affect the success of the surgery. Timing of surgery in tibial shaft fractures is controversial. In this study, the effect of the timing of surgery on the success and complications of intramedullary nailing of tibial fractures is examined.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to examine the effect of patient empowerment on patient activation level in individuals with cardiovascular diseases.

Methods: The population of the study is adult individuals receiving inpatient treatment in the Cardiology clinic of a city hospital operating in Turkey. In the study, convenience sampling method was applied, and a questionnaire was conducted from 543 patients.

Background and objective Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a potentially fatal complication of uncontrolled diabetes and remains a significant source of morbidity and mortality even though it is considered preventable. Diabetes is a chronic illness that requires constant monitoring and regular check-ups. Delaying or foregoing necessary diabetes care due to a lack of health insurance can result in severe complications.

This study aims to estimate the impact of a potential Medicaid expansion on Texas hospitals. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) Medicaid expansion increased access to health care and improved health outcomes. Still, several states, including Texas, have not adopted the expansion.

The relationship between the perception of chronic disease care and health-related quality of life in adults with chronic kidney disease.

Objectives: In this study, it was aimed to determine the chronic disease care assessments and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) levels in adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis and to reveal the relationship between chronic disease care assessment and HRQoL.

Methods: A single-center cross-sectional design has been used. Data were collected from 105 adults with CKD, who undergoing hemodialysis.

In particular, we estimate the effect of health insurance on the use of bypass surgery after a heart attack and on the use of a C-section after a normal pregnancy. These procedures are the most expensive, compared to the alternatives.

The Effect of Shelter-in-Place Orders on Social Distancing and the Spread of the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Study of Texas.

We study how the state-wide shelter-in-place order affected social distancing and the number of cases and deaths in Texas. We use daily data at the county level. The COVID-19 cases and fatalities data are from the New York Times.

[An evaluation of palliative care service effect in patients with cancer diagnosis: Comparison in terms of the symptom level and care satisfaction].

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of palliative care on the symptom level assessment and satisfaction of patients diagnosed with cancer.

Methods: The study was carried out with 60 cancer patients who received service at a palliative care center (PCC) and 59 cancer patients who received general care services at a public hospital. The effect of the services provided at the 2 hospitals was evaluated using the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System and the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer In-patient Satisfaction with Care Questionnaire.

The implementation part of the study has been carried out on the health staff working in a public hospital taking place in the city of Kırıkkale (Turkey).The data attained from 460 participants have been assessed.

Determining Breast Cancer Treatment Costs Using the Top Down Cost Approach.

Objective: Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in Turkey, with approximately 15.000 breast cancer diagnoses each year. In this study, our goal was to determine annual direct medical costs of all breast cancer patients in Turkey with top down cost approach.

The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between paternalistic leadership, organizational cynicism, and the intention to quit one's job among nurses. The implementation part of the study was carried out with nurses working in a public hospital in the city of Mersin, Turkey. Data were collected in January 2018 from 215 participants and then analyzed.

An evaluation of the cost-effectiveness of the different palliative care models available to cancer patients in Turkey.

Background: Three different models are commonly used to provide palliative care services to cancer patients in Turkey: comprehensive palliative care center (CPCC), hospital inpatient services (HIS) and home healthcare (HHC).

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of three alternative palliative care models for cancer patients.

Methods: The study included a total of 160 patients diagnosed with cancer (CPCC:60, HIS:59, HHC:41).

The incidence and distribution of primary fibula tumors and tumor-like lesions: A 35-year experience.

Purpose: Primary bone tumors of the fibula are rare. There are only a few studies reporting the incidence, histologic, and anatomic distribution of primary fibula tumors. This study aimed to comprehensively report the incidence, presenting symptoms, and histologic tumor types with the anatomic and histologic distribution of primary bone tumors of the fibula.

Deformity correction with total knee arthroplasty for severe knee osteoarthritis accompanying extra-articular femoral deformity: the results are promising.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate patients with severe degenerative osteoarthritis of the knee and extra-articular femoral deformities treated with total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and acute deformity correction.

Methods: Ten patients with severe degenerative osteoarthritis of the knee and extra-articular femoral deformities were included, and the median age was 63 years (range 38-67). The etiology was post-traumatic malunion in four patients, rickets sequelae in four patients, and surgical sequelae due to multiple epiphyseal dysplasia in two patients.

Angular deformity development after the distal tibial physeal fractures.

Unlabelled: Several clinical and radiological factors can be prognostic in the development of angular deformity following physeal injuries of the distal tibia. One of the radiological parameters, premature physeal closure (PPC), can be detected during postoperative follow-ups. Aim of our study was to identify the prognostic factors in development of angular deformity and its relationship with PPC.

Comparative Results of External Fixation, Plating, or Nonoperative Management for Diaphyseal Clavicle Fractures.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the treatment outcomes of mid-diaphyseal clavicular fractures between an external fixator and more widely selected treatment options such as plate osteosynthesis or conservative methods.

Materials And Methods: The medical records of 64 patients who were treated for mid-diaphyseal clavicular fracture in our clinic from 2009 to 2013 were reviewed. The inclusion criterion was mid-diaphyseal closed clavicular fractures with shortening of more than 2 cm.

The results of Bankart repair without capsular plication in patients with recurrent traumatic anterior shoulder dislocation.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of patients with recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation, who had been treated with repair of the Bankart lesion without capsuler plication.

Material And Method: The study included 22 shoulders of 22 patients (16 males and 6 females) with a mean age of 28 years, who underwent Bankart repair between 2011 and 2014. Patients with bilateral shoulder instability, multiple instability, >25% glenoid bone loss, and those with a history of shoulder surgery were not included in the study.
