Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the link between specific gene alleles and the risk of developing Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) when taking lamotrigine (LTG), with a focus on various populations.
  • It identifies two protective alleles and highlights five others that could increase the risk of LTG-induced SJS, with a significant odds ratio indicating a strong association.
  • The findings suggest that genetic screening should be considered to help prevent this serious side effect, as the risk alleles may vary by ancestry.
