Article Synopsis
  • Male C57BL/6 mice exhibit infanticidal behavior by aggressively biting unfamiliar pups, which is an adaptive strategy of polygamous species.
  • Recent studies show that the rhomboid nucleus within the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BSTrh) is crucial for this behavior, as lesions in this area suppress infanticide.
  • Interestingly, 3-week-old male mice display parental care instead of infanticide, suggesting a developmental change in behavior that may be linked to synaptic maturation in the BSTrh, which differentiates their responses compared to adult males.

A screening study on neuraminidase inhibitory constituents was carried out, and activity-guided fractionations of three plants, Gouania obtusifolia, Zizyphus cambodiana, and Mangifera odorata, led to the isolation of eleven compounds (1-11). Mangiferin was identified as a significant neuraminidase inhibitor.
