Objective: Despite known associations between eating disorders and obesity, little is known about the current prevalence of symptoms of eating disorders across the weight spectrum. This study therefore aimed to estimate the population prevalence of eating disorder symptoms in relation to weight status in adolescents.
Method: The sample comprised 3,270 participants (14-15 years; 52% boys) drawn from Wave 6 of the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children.
Tripartite motif-containing protein 5α (TRIM5α) is a cellular antiviral restriction factor that prevents early events in retrovirus replication. The activity of TRIM5α is thought to be limited to retroviruses as a result of highly specific interactions with capsid lattices. In contrast to this current understanding, we show that both human and rhesus macaque TRIM5α suppress replication of specific flaviviruses.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between crowding and the odds of several adverse outcomes among children seen at a pediatric emergency department.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study involving all children visiting 8 Canadian pediatric emergency departments across 4 provinces between 2010 and 2014.
Individuals chronically infected with HIV-1 harbor complex viral populations within their bloodstreams. Recently, it has come to light that when these people infect others, the new infection is typically established by only one or a small number of virions from within this complex viral swarm. An important goal is to characterize the biological properties of HIV-1 virions that seed and exist early in new human infections because these are potentially the only viruses against which a prophylactic HIV-1 vaccine would need to elicit protection.

In our study, we investigated the electrical properties of cell-mediated mineral deposition process and compared our results with cell-free mineralization. Saos-2 cells encapsulated within gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) hydrogels were chemically stimulated in osteogenic medium for a period of 4 weeks.

Primate lentiviruses (HIV/SIV) require the T cell receptor CD4 to enter into target cells. By surveying the sequence and function of CD4 in 50 chimpanzee individuals, we find that all chimpanzee CD4 alleles encode a fixed, chimpanzee-specific substitution (34T) that creates a glycosylation site on the virus binding surface of the CD4 receptor.

Documenting optimal data/biospecimen collection protocols and scale properties are fundamental for elucidating the impact of psychosocial factors on biologic systems and ultimately cancer development/progression.
Methods: Between 2013 and 2014, 233 Nurses' Health Study II women (mean age: 60.
Purpose: Positive youth development (PYD) has served as a framework for youth programs in high-income countries since the 1990s and has demonstrated broad behavioral health and developmental benefits. PYD programs build skills, assets, and competencies; foster youth agency; build healthy relationships; strengthen the environment; and transform systems to prepare youth for successful adulthood. The goal of this article was to systematically review the impact of PYD programs in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

While humans are constantly exposed to animal viruses, those that can successfully infect and transmit between humans are exceedingly rare. The key event in zoonosis is when an animal virus begins to replicate (one virion making many) in the first human subject.

The purpose of this study was to: (1) determine if sampling methodology was reproducible in RCTs related to musculoskeletal physical therapy (MSKPT) interventions to treat non-specific low back pain (NSLBP) and (2) establish if there was a relationship between sample reproducibility and established measures of research quality.: Data were collected through a systematic review by a professional librarian.

We aimed to assess the association between socioeconomic indicators and child and adolescent nutritional status, and the differences in this association between urban and rural areas.
Methods: We extracted data from the 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2014 cycles of the Chinese National Survey on Students' Constitution and Health.
Background: Rapid demographic, epidemiological, and nutritional transitons have brought a pressing need to track progress in adolescent health. Here, we present country-level estimates of 12 headline indicators from the Lancet Commission on adolescent health and wellbeing, from 1990 to 2016.
Methods: Indicators included those of health outcomes (disability-adjusted life-years [DALYs] due to communicable, maternal, and nutritional diseases; injuries; and non-communicable diseases); health risks (tobacco smoking, binge drinking, overweight, and anaemia); and social determinants of health (adolescent fertility; completion of secondary education; not in education, employment, or training [NEET]; child marriage; and demand for contraception satisfied with modern methods).
Contamination from both present-day humans and postmortem microbial sources is a common challenge in ancient DNA studies. Here we present a suite of tools to assist in the assessment of contamination in ancient DNA data sets. These tools perform standard tests of authenticity of ancient DNA data including detecting the presence of postmortem damage signatures in sequence alignments and quantifying the amount of present-day human contamination.

However, in vivo community-based psychosocial interventions, especially those with a recovery-oriented approach, remain scarce in the region. Between 2014 and 2015, a Critical Time Intervention-Task Shifting project (CTI-TS) was implemented in Santiago, Chile, as part of a larger pilot randomized control trial.

Most Australian healthcare practitioners are educated at university, where educational interventions could be delivered to students. Specific IPV outcome measurement instruments demonstrating sound psychometric properties would enable accurate evaluation of educational interventions to ensure effectiveness.

We analysed patient-based national surveillance data to investigate the epidemiology of reported tuberculosis among children (aged 0-9 years), adolescents (aged 10-19 years) and young adults (aged 20-24 years) to better understand the burden of disease and treatment outcomes in these age groups. Descriptive analyses were performed to assess age-related patterns in notifications and treatment outcomes.

However, little is known about what factors contribute to early response. Further, no previous studies have examined early response to separated forms of FBT.

However, understanding how fluctuations in negative affect relate to symptoms of anorexia nervosa (AN) during treatment is limited. In a longitudinal study, the reciprocal associations between higher and lower order dimensions of negative affect and dietary restraint were examined in adolescents undergoing treatment for AN.

This study investigated the prevalence and correlates of anemia in a nationally representative sample of adolescents within the 2014 National Adolescent Nutrition Survey in Nepal. A total of 3780 adolescents aged 10 to 19 years were selected from a cross-sectional survey through multi-stage cluster sampling.
