Article Synopsis
  • Monkeypox (mpox), caused by the MPX virus, had a global outbreak in 2022-2023 due to a new variant, clade IIb, primarily affecting men who have sex with men (MSM) in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR).
  • A study analyzed mpox case reports submitted to the WHO from May 2022 to December 2023, revealing that most cases were adult males, predominantly MSM, with common symptoms including rash and fever.
  • Concerns were raised about data completeness, as reported cases might be significantly lower than actual occurrences, affecting regional response strategies; however, collaborative efforts among EMR countries showed promise for future preparedness.

  • - The study analyzed acute care utilization for mental health issues in eight high-income countries (Canada, England, Finland, France, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, and the US) from 2017 to 2020, focusing on hospitalization and emergency department (ED) visits.
  • - The findings revealed significant differences in care rates; the US had the highest combined rate of acute care at 1613/100,000 people, while Finland had the lowest at 776/100,000, with France and Spain showing varying hospitalization rates.

The reaction of the OH radicals with 4-hydroxy-2-butanone was investigated in the gas phase using an absolute rate method at room temperature and over the pressure range 10-330 Torr in He and air as diluent gases. The rate coefficients were measured using pulsed laser photolysis (PLP) of H(2)O(2) to produce OH and laser induced fluorescence (LIF) to measure the OH temporal profile. An average value of (4.

A microbial process for removing cadmium from a homogenate of hepatopancreas, a waste of scallop processing, was devised to use this waste for value-added protein resources. Microorganisms were screened on the basis of the ability to remove cadmium from a medium with the initial concentration of 10 mg/l of cadmium. One soil isolate, identified as Xanthomonas sp.

The nucleotide sequence of the 5'-upstream region up to about -4.1 kb of the human P-450c gene was determined. Two kinds of repetitive sequences were located; one was the Alu sequence which was inserted at three positions (-3127 to -3038, -3017 to -2770, and -2167 to -1851), and the other was the SINE-R element located just upstream of the most distal Alu sequences.
