The patient was a 27-year-old Japanese female healthcare worker who was scheduled to undergo pituitary surgery for Cushing's disease. She had been in close contact with an undiagnosed patient infected with COVID-19 and then developed COVID-19 pneumonia.

Background: Delayed syncopal-type complications are infrequent among blood donors, but sometimes have critical consequences, such as severe injury. We retrospectively investigated the characteristics of donors with delayed syncopal-type complications or falls.

"Integrated diagnosis" of pilocytic astrocytoma: Molecular diagnostic procedure for an unusual case.

A 24 year-old female presented with a mass lesion in the right temporal lobe. This case was difficult to diagnose using histological and immunological methods and therefore molecular analyses were applied to provide a definitive diagnosis. The tumor was well-demarcated, partially cystic, and irregularly-enhanced on gadolinium-enhanced T1-weighted magnetic resonance images.

Clinical Presentation:  A case of cerebral intraparenchymal choroid plexus tumor in a 30-year-old woman presenting with left hemiparesis is described. Brain magnetic resonance imaging depicted a large cystic mass in the right frontal lobe.

Background: Although prestorage leucoreduction (LR) of blood components for transfusion has gained favour around the world, evidence of its beneficial clinical effects is ambiguous.

Study Design And Methods: To reveal whether leucocytes and/or platelets in transfused blood are related to transfusion-related adverse effects, a prospective randomized crossover study was performed on patients who donated autologous blood prior to elective surgery. Among 1487 primary enrolees, a total of 192 patients undergoing two-stage, bilateral total hip arthroplasty were randomized to receive autologous blood that was either prestorage leucoreduced, or not, for the first procedure.

Chiral phosphite-urea bifunctional catalysts have been developed for the enantioselective bromocyclization of 2-geranylphenols with N-bromophthalimide (NBP) for the first time. The chiral triaryl phosphite moiety activates NBP to generate a bromophosphonium ion. On the other hand, the urea moiety interacts with a hydroxyl group of the substrate through hydrogen bonding interactions.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a key component of the mitochondrial electron transfer chain and is one of the most important cellular antioxidants. We previously reported that glycoprotein saposin B (SapB) binds CoQ10 in human cells. To elucidate the physiological role of SapB and its precursor, prosaposin (Psap), we prepared stable transfectants of HepG2 that overexpress wild-type human Psap (Wt-Tf).
