The advent of artificial intelligence has positively transformed many areas of our lives, including the medical field. In this article, we propose the development of a medical diagnosis chatbot based on patients' symptoms, using artificial intelligence as an innovative solution. The aim of this tool is to provide doctors with a preliminary diagnosis based on the symptoms presented by patients.

The Optimising treatment for acute MAlnutrition (OptiMA) strategy trains mothers to use mid upper arm circumference (MUAC) bracelets for screening and targets treatment to children with MUAC < 125 mm or oedema with one therapeutic food at a gradually reduced dose. This study seeks to determine whether OptiMA conforms to SPHERE standards (recovery rate > 75 %). A single-arm proof-of-concept trial was conducted in 2017 in Yako district, Burkina Faso including children aged 6-59 months in outpatient health centres with MUAC < 125 mm or oedema.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Although consensus exists that malaria in pregnancy (MiP) increases the risk of malaria in infancy, and eventually nonmalarial fevers (NMFs), there is a lack of conclusive evidence of benefits of MiP preventive strategies in infants.
Methods: In Burkina Faso, a birth cohort study was nested to a clinical trial assessing the effectiveness of a community-based scheduled screening and treatment of malaria in combination with intermittent preventive treatment with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (CSST/IPTp-SP) to prevent placental malaria. Clinical episodes and asymptomatic infections were monitored over 1 year of follow-up to compare the effect of CSST/IPTp-SP and standard IPTp-SP on malaria and NMFs.
Background: Diagnosis of malaria in pregnancy is problematic due to the low sensitivity of conventional diagnostic tests (rapid diagnostic test and microscopy), which is exacerbated due to low peripheral parasite densities, and lack of clinical symptoms. In this study, six potential biomarkers to support malaria diagnosis in pregnancy were evaluated.
Methods: Blood samples were collected from pregnant women at antenatal clinic visits and at delivery.
The incidence of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) has increased in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso since 1996. A study was carried out from September to November 2000 to determine the impact of HIV on this outbreak. Of 74 CL patients, 10 were co-infected with HIV.

It was to assess reaching of the leprosy elimination threshold (one case per 10,000 inhabitants) in Burkina Faso. We drew lots for the villages in ten provinces among which five had the highest prevalence rates of leprosy in 1996 and five had the lowest prevalence rates.
