The case presents a traumatic ventricular perforation of a girl, accidentally felt on a sharp instrument. The uniqueness of the case presented is due to the very high infrequency of injuries with this type of sharp object. The 7-year-old girl was transported to the hospital after accidentally falling on a sharp instrument.

Fifteen-year experience with the Tirone David procedure in bicuspid aortic valve: A safe option.

Background: We evaluated short and midterm outcomes with use of aortic valve-sparing root replacement to treat bicuspid aortic valves (BAVs).

Methods: From December 2007 to January 2022, all patients with BAVs who underwent aortic root replacement using Tirone's procedure were included. This study based on department database information for retrospective and follow-up data.

Extracorporeal life support as a lifesaving procedure in palliative surgery of stenosing upper tracheal tumor.

In the patients with stenotic upper respiratory airways tumor, the tracheal intubation during the surgical resection is sometimes impossible. In these situations, Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation appears to be an interesting temporarily alternative to ventilation to allow tumor removal. In this report the authors describe a case of successful resection of tracheal tumor in an 80-year-old female patient in which tracheal intubation was impossible.

Rapid-deployment aortic valve replacement in high-risk patients: A case-control study.

Aortic valve stenosis is the most frequent cardiac valve pathology in the western world. In high-risk patients, conventional aortic valve replacement (C-AVR) carries high rates of morbidity and mortality. In the last few years, rapid-deployment valves (RDV) have been developed to reduce the surgical risks.

Inaugural experience and early results of minimally invasive approach in cardiac surgery in Auvergne region, France.

Minimally invasive approach in cardiac surgery has become an established and common technique in many cardiac surgery centres throughout the world. We report how we safely introduced minimally invasive approach in cardiac surgery in our department and we aim to demonstrate that this approach is feasible in any medium-size cardiac surgical centre. it consisted of retrospective and descriptive study on 60 patients who underwent minimally invasive mitral valve (45) or aortic valve surgery (15) from January 2017 to Februry 2018.

Background And Aim: Fermented milk is food produced and consumed all over the world and plays an important role in human nutrition. This work aimed to evaluate the microbiological and physicochemical quality and mineral composition of fermented milk consumed in Burkina Faso.

Materials And Methods: A total of 114 samples of fermented milk from camels, goats, and cows were purchased in the market in five localities in Burkina Faso; Bobo Dioulasso, Djibo, Dori, Gorom-Gorom, and Sebba.

Transaortic Left Ventricular Unloading in VA-ECMO: The Transsubclavian Route.

Left ventricular unloading during extracorporeal life support aims to minimize potential side effects of increased left ventricular afterload. A transaortic catheter vent implanted through a subclavian approach was used in 2 patients. Patient 1 was a 48-year-old man with a recent history of ST-elevation myocardial infarction who developed refractory cardiogenic shock due to severe biventricular dysfunction.

We evaluated antibiotic prescription trends in rural Burkina Faso, where little is known about antibiotic consumption. Antibiotic prescription data for 20 communities were extracted through record review in six primary health-care facilities serving the communities.

Vaccine exposure to temperatures below recommended ranges in the cold chain may decrease vaccine potency of freeze-sensitive vaccines leading to a loss of vaccine investments and potentially places children at risk of contracting vaccine preventable illnesses. This literature review is an update to one previously published in 2007 (Matthias et al., 2007), analyzing the prevalence of vaccine exposure to temperatures below recommendations throughout various segments of the cold chain.
