We present novel research on the cortical dynamics of atypical perceptual and emotional processing in people with symptoms of depersonalization-derealization disorder (DP-DR). We used electroencephalography (EEG)/event-related potentials (ERPs) to delineate the early perceptual mechanisms underlying emotional face recognition and mirror touch in adults with low and high levels of DP-DR symptoms (low-DP and high-DP groups). Face-sensitive visual N170 showed markedly less differentiation for emotional versus neutral face-voice stimuli in the high- than in the low-DP group.

Safety and Tolerability of Continuous Inhaled Iloprost Therapy for Severe Pulmonary Hypertension in Neonates and Infants.

This is a single-center retrospective study to assess the safety and tolerability of continuous inhaled iloprost use as rescue therapy for refractory pulmonary hypertension (PH) in critically ill neonates and infants. A retrospective chart review was performed on 58 infants and data were collected at baseline, 1, 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 h of iloprost initiation. Primary outcomes were change in heart rate (HR), fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO), mean airway pressures (MAP), blood pressure (BP) and oxygenation index (OI).

The Modified Superomedial Pedicle Breast Reduction Technique for Cases with SN-N Distance Exceeding 33 cm.

Background: Symptomatic breast hypertrophy affects the quality of life of a large number of women globally. Many reduction mammoplasty techniques have been described for patients with breast hypertrophy. The aim of this study was to provide our clinic's experience in utilizing the modified superomedial pedicle breast reduction technique in specific patients suffering from breast hypertrophy, with sternal notch-to-nipple distance of more than 33 cm.

Carney complex: a case report of bilateral breast myxoid fibroadenomas.

Carney complex is a rare autosomal dominant familiar multiple neoplasia syndrome combined with cardiocutaneous manifestations. Our report describes a Carney complex case with bilateral myxoid fibroadenomas that led to a bilateral mastectomy. An 18-year-old female patient presented at our clinic with complaints of multiple palpable lumps in her breasts bilaterally.

Telemedicine in diabetic ulcer management: A pilot study with exploration of medico-legal aspects.

Background And Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the quality and efficiency of telemedicine in managing patients with chronic diabetic ulcers and provide an overview of the main medico-legal implications associated with telemedicine management of diabetic foot complications.

Methods And Results: A total of 50 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were enrolled from a diabetic foot outpatient clinic in Cyprus between March and May 2022. Participants completed a survey concerning telemedicine services, and the demographic variables and average responses to the PACIC (Patient Assessment of Chronic Illness Care) questions were examined using descriptive analysis.

Toward patient-centered treatment goals for duchenne muscular dystrophy: insights from the "Your Voice" study.

Background: Patient-centered research has emerged as critically important for understanding the impact of treatments on key stakeholders. The subjective experience of quality of life (QOL) is increasingly recognized as fundamental to delineating treatment goals. The present study utilized content analysis of qualitative data and quantitative analysis to highlight important domains of disease burden and underlying reasons for their importance, and to characterize goals for new treatments for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

Background: The superomedial pedicle is a widely used technique in mammaplasty, with various modifications formed over the years. Survival of umbilicus on a superiorly based flap after fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty: A case report.

Introduction: Massive weight loss patients have a midline excess of abdominal adipose and skin tissue that contributes to an increased abdominal girth. This excess of tissue in these patients is not resolved with traditional techniques of abdominoplasty and usually the fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty technique is employed.

Patient Concerns: A 22-year-old male patient came to our clinic after a massive weight loss of 170 kg, requesting an abdominoplasty for the excess adipose and skin tissue.

During the recent COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare providers have been encouraged to increase their use of telemedicine and to adopt telemedicine platforms for the majority of their clients who have chronic illnesses. Background: Pain control is an important element of care for patients after surgery, leading to better outcomes, quicker transitions to recovery, and improvement in quality of life. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in children after cardiac surgery.

Materials And Methods: Patients between the ages of 1 month and 18 years of age, who received intravenous or oral non-steroidal anti-inflammataory drugs after cardiac surgery, from November 2015 until September 2017 were included in this study.

N-Acetylcysteine for Gastric Lactobezoars in a 1-Month-Old.

Gastric lactobezoars are a result of the inability to digest milk and mucous. Formulas that contain high casein concentrations, medium triglyceride oils, or high caloric density can increase the risk of bezoar formation by decreasing gastric secretion or delaying gastric emptying. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is used to clear thick mucus secretions and is hypothesized to be effective in the treatment of gastric lactobezoars due to the cleavage of disulfide bonds in mucoproteins.

Identification of Legionella spp. in Environmental Water Samples by ScanVIT-Legionella™ Method in Spain.

Rapid and more sensitive methods for the detection and quantification of viable Legionella cells have been developed. In this paper, a comparative analysis of environmental water samples using the ScanVIT-Legionella™ method and the traditional "gold standard" method of culturing is realised indicating the usefulness of the ScanVIT method. The ScanVIT-Legionella™ method was performed on environmental water samples from different locations of Huesca region (Spain).

Effects of dredging in Göteborg harbor, Sweden, assessed by biomarkers in eelpout (Zoarces viviparus).

We used a battery of biomarkers in fish to study the effects of the extensive dredging in Göteborg harbor situated at the river Göta alv estuary, Sweden. Eelpout (Zoarces viviparus) were sampled along a gradient into Göteborg harbor, both before and during the dredging. Biomarker responses in the eelpout before the dredging already indicated that fish in Göteborg harbor are chronically affected by pollutants under normal conditions compared to those in a reference area.

Characterisation of DNA probes for the analysis of metallothionein gene expression in the bank vole (Clethrionomys glareolus).

DNA probes have been developed for subsequent use in monitoring the exposure of animals to heavy metal pollution in terrestrial environments using metallothionein (MT) gene expression in the bank vole (Clethrionomys glareolus). Three different bank vole sequences were characterised corresponding to the cDNA and the genomic DNA for MT-I and the genomic DNA for MT-II. Nucleotide sequence analysis indicates that the coding sequences of the bank vole MT-I and MT-II genes exhibit a very high degree of similarity (greater than 92%) to the corresponding genes of the Chinese hamster, the mouse and the rat.

Misdiagnosis of toxoplasma infection by PCR: fears unfounded.

A nested PCR based diagnostic assay for the detection of toxoplasmosis was devised in 1990 and was used successfully among a battery of tests for the clinical diagnosis of Toxoplasma gondii infection since 1991. However, it was reported that the assay produced false positive diagnoses with Nocardia asteroides infection. Investigation of this phenomenon showed that although cross reactivity with some unrelated organisms may be observed when altered conditions are employed, the assay does not lead to misdiagnosis if performed under the appropriate, stringent conditions.

Induction of a putative monooxygenase of crabs (Carcinus spp.) by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

As part of a programme to develop biomarker assays for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in marine invertebrates, two species of crabs, Carcinus maenas and Carcinus aestuarii were exposed to benzo(a)pyrene (B(a)P) or crude oil. Microsomes were prepared from the midgut gland (hepatopancreas), examined by gel electrophoresis and Western blotting and assayed for B(a)P monooxygenase activity. In early experiments there was evidence of protein degradation and results were inconsistent and inconclusive.
