Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome Reaction in Patient on Long-Term Prednisone.

Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) can be triggered in many ways. IRIS has been recognized during tuberculosis (TB) therapy, especially in patients newly initiated on antiretroviral therapy for HIV or those taken off immunosuppressives such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha inhibitors. However, there are still many triggers of IRIS that are less understood.

Development and usability testing of Understanding Stroke, a tailored life-sustaining treatment decision support tool for stroke surrogate decision makers.

Background: Surrogate decision makers of stroke patients are often unprepared to make critical decisions on life-sustaining treatments. We describe the development process and key features for the Understanding Stroke web-based decision support tool.

Methods: We used multiple strategies to develop a patient-centered, tailored decision aid.

Surrogate Satisfaction with Decision Making After Intracerebral Hemorrhage.

Background/objective: Surrogate decision makers for patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) are frequently asked to make difficult decisions on use of life-sustaining treatments. We explored ICH surrogate satisfaction with decision making and experience of decision regret using validated measures in a prospective multicenter study.

Methods: Cases of non-traumatic ICH were enrolled from three hospitals (September 2015-December 2016), and surrogate decision makers were invited to complete a self-administered survey.
