Profile of dermatology inpatients and admissions over a four year period in a tertiary level government teaching hospital in North India.

Background: Although dermatology is mostly an outpatient specialty, some patients with severe skin disease need hospital admission for management. There is a paucity of data regarding the profile of these dermatology in-patient admissions.

Aims: We studied the profile of patients admitted to the dermatology ward of our tertiary care government hospital in North India.

Stem cell therapy in dermatology.

Stem cells are precursor cells present in many tissues with ability to differentiate into various types of cells. This interesting property of plasticity can have therapeutic implications and there has been substantial research in this field in last few decades. As a result, stem cell therapy is now used as a therapeutic modality in many conditions, and has made its way in dermatology too.

A Clinico-Epidemiological Study of Scalp Hair Loss in Children (0-18 Years) in Kota Region, South-East Rajasthan.

Background: Currently, the studies related to hair loss in children showed the variable prevalence of different clinical patterns and causes of scalp hair loss, that had regional variation.

Aims: The aim of this study is to evaluate the epidemiology and clinical pattern of scalp hair loss in children (0-18 years age group).

Materials And Methods: A total of 300 children presenting with scalp hair loss were studied during a period of 1 year from April 2015 to March 2016.

A retrospective study of the pattern of sexually transmitted infections from a tertiary care hospital of Rajasthan.

Background: Knowledge about the current patterns of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is essential as they pose a major health problem worldwide and even more so in the developing countries like ours. Owing to the lack of advanced laboratory facilities at most of the centers, the cases are evaluated and managed as per the syndromic approach proposed by the National AIDS Control Organization.

Aims: We aim to study the patterns of STIs seen over the past 4 years based on the syndromic approach.

Plica Polonica in a Patient on Chemotherapy: A Case Report with Review of Literature.

Plica polonica (plica neuropathica) is an uncommon entity characterized by irreversible twisting and matting of hair resulting in a hard impermeable mass of keratin. Although the exact mechanism is not fully understood, it has been attribute to longitudinal splitting or weathering of hair shaft due to vigorous friction and frequent use of harsh shampoos and harsh cleansers and/or due to keeping long hair with poor hair care or neglect, parasitic infection. We describe an unusual case of plica polonica occurring in a patient of lung adenocarcinoma on chemotherapy and review the literature.

Co-occurrence of Erythrosis Pigmentosa Mediofacialis and Erythromelanosis Follicularis Faciei et Colli Associated with Keratosis Pilaris in an Adolescent Female.

Erythromelanosis follicularis faciei et colli (EFFC) is a rare disease characterized by a triad of reddish-brown pigmentation, erythema and follicular papules localized on face and neck and is usually described in males. Erythrosis pigmentosa mediofacialis (also known as Brocq or erythrosis pigmentosa peribuccalis) is a similar disorder of the mediofacial area but with female predominance. We report a case of simultaneous occurrence of erythrosis pigmentosa peribuccalis and EFFC associated with keratosis pilaris in an adolescent female.

Primary Systemic Amyloidosis with Unusual Dermatological Manifestations: A Rare Case Report.

Amyloidosis is a group of heterogeneous diseases characterized by pathological deposition of proteinaceous substance extracellularly in various tissues. The clinical presentation depends on the site of amyloid deposition, with predominant involvement of mesenchymal elements and cutaneous findings in 30-40% of patients in case of primary systemic amyloidosis. We present a case of idiopathic primary systemic amyloidosis presenting with an unusual finding of nodulo-ulcerative lesion over tongue along with multiple skin-colored nodules, mimicking squamous cell carcinoma of tongue with secondary cutaneous metastasis, as well as lacking the classical presentation of purpura, macroglossia, waxy papules, and plaques.
