Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder marked by motor deficits and non-motor symptoms, such as depression, which are associated with dopaminergic loss and α-synuclein aggregation in the brain. This study investigated the neuroprotective effects of a hydroalcoholic extract of the purple fruit of (PFEU) on motor ability and depressive-like behaviors in a PD model induced by 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) in female Wistar rats. Rats received intranasal administration of MPTP or vehicle, followed by 14 days of oral administration of PFEU (300 or 2000 mg/kg, administered once daily) or vehicle.

Nanoencapsulated Curcumin: Enhanced Efficacy in Reversing Memory Loss in An Alzheimer Disease Model.

Investigating new drugs or formulations that target Alzheimer disease (AD) is critical for advancing therapeutic interventions. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the effectiveness of nanoencapsulated curcumin (NC Curc) in alleviating memory impairment, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation in a validated AD model. Male Wistar rats were given bilateral intracerebroventricular injections of either saline or streptozotocin (STZ) (3 mg/3 µL/site) to establish the AD model (day 0).

Physical Activity in Long COVID: A Comparative Study of Exercise Rehabilitation Benefits in Patients with Long COVID, Coronary Artery Disease and Fibromyalgia.

Exercise in long COVID is poorly studied. Nevertheless, exerciserehabilitation could improve cardiorespiratory, muscular and autonomic functions. We aimed to investigate improvement in physical and autonomic performances of long COVID patients ( = 38) after a 4-week exercise rehabilitation program (3 sessions/week) compared to two control groups composed of coronary artery disease ( = 38) and fibromyalgia patients ( = 38), two populations for whom exercise benefits are well known.

Adult male Wistar rats were exposed to MPTP (1 mg/nostril) or vehicle.

Introduction: With the rarefaction of home medical visits, prehospital emergencies are ensured by the Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Structures (SMUR) and the Firemen accompanied by Firefighters Nurses (FfNs).

Purpose Of Research: The main objective of this work is to describe the pathologies managed by the FfNs of the Loire district according to their International Classification of Primary Care version 2 and the Clinical Classification of Diseases of the initial SMUR during all interventions performed in 2019. The secondary objective will be to determine the associated Emergency Care Nursing Protocols (PISU).

A Purine Derivative Containing an Organoselenium Group Protects Against Memory Impairment, Sensitivity to Nociception, Oxidative Damage, and Neuroinflammation in a Mouse Model of Alzheimer's Disease.

In the present study, the effect of 6-((4-fluorophenyl) selanyl)-9H-purine (FSP) was tested against memory impairment and sensitivity to nociception induced by intracerebroventricular injection of amyloid-beta peptide (Aβ) (25-35 fragment), 3 nmol/3 μl/per site in mice. Memory impairment was determined by the object recognition task (ORT) and nociception by the Von-Frey test (VFT). Aβ caused neuroinflammation with upregulation of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) (in hippocampus), nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), and the proinflammatory cytokines interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in cerebral cortex and hippocampus.

Sleep quality and sleep disturbances among volunteer and professional French firefighters: FIRESLEEP study.

Background: Although insufficient sleep among firefighters reduces work efficiency and increases the risk of injury, little is known about the sleep quality of French firefighters in the Loire department. The aim of the FIRESLEEP study was to evaluate sleep quality and sleep disturbances among professional and voluntary French firefighters.

Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted between November 2018 and May 2019.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive brain disorder and complex mechanisms are involved in the physiopathology of AD. However, there is data suggesting that inflammation plays a role in its development and progression. Indeed, some non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as meloxicam, which act by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) have been used as neuroprotective agents in different neurodegenerative disease models.

Prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in a population of French firefighters.

Firefighters' activities increase the risk of sudden cardiac events. The main objective of this study was to describe the Loire firefighters' cardiovascular risk factors according to their cardiovascular risk and to their professional status. A retrospective study of the entire population of firefighters of the Loire department was conducted.

Background: Organophosphorus pesticides exert their toxic effects mainly by the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), which is related to emotional disorders, such as depression. Atropine-oximes therapy is commonly used; however, the efficacy of oximes in the reactivation of AChE has been inconsistent. The objective of this study was to investigate the possible neuroprotective effect of (3Z)-5-Chloro-3-(hydroxyimino)indolin-2-one (Câ„“-HIN), a compound that combines the isatin and oxime functional groups, in rats exposed to malathion.

Care through cohort studies: sociological survey of the PROOF cohort study on vascular and cognitive aging.

Background: The success of health research depends on the involvement of participants. Few studies have examined the participation of subjects in cohorts. Drawing on a sociological survey on a French cohort around aging, this study proposes to question the nature of interactions between researchers and subjects that would help to understand the motivations of subjects to participate and remain in health research studies.

Pre-clinical evidence of safety and protective effect of isatin and oxime derivatives against malathion-induced toxicity.

The inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is a common outcome caused by organophosphorus (OPs) intoxication. Although inconsistent, the standard treatment consists of a muscarinic receptor antagonist (atropine) and AChE-reactivating molecules such as oximes. This study proposes to test unpublished compounds which contain the moieties of isatin and/or oxime have protective effects against the toxicity induced by malathion in two animal models: Artemia salina and Rattus norvegicus (Wistar rats).

(3Z)-5-Chloro-3-(Hydroxyimino)indolin-2-one attenuates hyperglycemia, increased hepatic glycogen content and hepatic damage induced by malathion acute exposure in rats.

Background: Organophosphorus pesticides (OP's) are heavily constituted in agriculture, gardens, home and veterinary and although it is useful, there are concerns about the environment, safety and health of human and animals. In this study, we investigated the effects of a new oxime, (3Z)-5-Chloro-3-(Hydroxyimino)indolin-2-one (OXIME) against the alterations induced by malathion, an OP insecticide, acute exposure on markers of hepatic damage, glucose homeostasis, oxidative stress in rats cholinesterase (ChE) activity in rats.

Methods: Adult male Wistar rats were divided into four groups: Control; Malathion; OXIME; and Malathion+OXIME.

Graduated compression stockings in prevention of venous thromboembolism among acutely ill medical patients aged over 75 years: a French national survey.

The thromboprophylactic efficacy of graduated compression stockings (GCS) has not yet been demonstrated in acutely ill medical patients, and guidelines vary considerably. Older acutely ill medical patients appear to constitute a distinctive population presenting high risks of both thrombosis and bleeding. To evaluate the practices and beliefs of a panel of French geriatricians regarding GCS management in acutely ill medical patients aged over 75 years.

Introduction: Functional somatic syndromes, grouping somatic symptoms without an organic explanation, are defined either by their predominant symptoms or by an attribution to an, often hypothetical, cause. Due to many similarities, some authors consider that there is only one FSS due to a general phenomenon of "somatization". The objective of this work was to compare two functional somatic syndromes, one defined by its symptoms, fibromyalgia, and the other by a specific contested attribution, electro-hypersensitivity.

[Evaluation of 114 abnormal Pap smear follow-up in ambulatory care.].

Aim: In France, cervical cancer screening has led to a decrease in mortality, though it could be optimized by improving the management of abnormal cytology. The aim was to evaluate the follow-up of women with abnormal Pap smear prescribed by an ambulatory health professional, compared to the ANAES guidelines of 2002.

Method: Quantitative monocentric and retrospective study of 120 women with abnormal Pap smear performed before October 2014 in the French department of the Loire.

Volunteer and Career French Firefighters With High Cardiovascular Risk: Epidemiology and Exercise Tests.

Objective: We aim to identify cardiovascular risk factors in firefighters of Loire (French district) with a high cardiovascular risk and report results of a screening program using exercise tests.

Methods: A retrospective descriptive study was performed in a cohort of 158 career and 400 volunteer firefighters with a high cardiovascular risk who had undergone an exercise test.

Results: Five hundred fifty-eight exercise tests and cardiovascular profiles were analyzed.
