Elevated prostate-specific antigen in Paget's disease.

A 70-year-old man diagnosed with acinar adenocarcinoma prostate (Gleason score 4 + 4 = 8) underwent bone scintigraphy due to high serum prostate-specific antigen level (224 ng/mL; normal <4 ng/mL). Bone scan revealed moderately increased diffuse tracer uptake in the right hemipelvis, while the rest of the scan appeared normal, leading to suspicion of Paget's disease. Gallium-68-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positron emission tomography-computed tomography scan (CT) showed a PSMA-avid lesion in the left lobe of the prostate, with no PSMA uptake in the areas of diffuse sclerosis in the right hemipelvis, as seen on CT.

The pandemic COVID-19 has spread widely throughout the globe and has been responsible for millions of deaths worldwide. Recently, it has been identified that there is no specific and 100% effective treatment available to manage the infection especially for the severe cases. A significant amount of research efforts and clinical trials have been undertaken globally and many more are underway to find the potential treatment option.

Localization of Pyelonephritis by Ga-FAPI PET CT.

Fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (FAPI) is a quinoline-based membrane-bound glycoprotein enzyme that is not usually expressed in normal adult tissues, except for the myometrium and sometimes the pancreas. Its expression increases in inflammation and cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAF). As FAPI is a new molecule with a promising future, presented here is a case report of uncontrolled diabetes with abdominal pain that showed features of inflammation in the kidneys.

Simultaneous Estimation of Six Nitrosamine Impurities in Valsartan Using Liquid Chromatographic Method.

Background: Nitrosamine impurities are potent carcinogens in animals and probable carcinogens in humans. There is a need for effective analytical methods to detect and identify various nitrosamine impurities, and to develop rapid solutions to ensure the safety and quality of the drugs.

Objective: A liquid chromatographic method was developed for estimation of six nitrosamine impurities in valsartan.

Objectives: Acute pyelonephritis presents with high-grade fever, dysuria, flank pain, leukocytosis, and microscopic hematuria. Urine culture aids in the diagnosis of this infection. It can be complicated or uncomplicated.

False-positive FDG PET CT Scan in Vertebral Hemangioma.

FDG PET CT scan is considered to be a sensitive tool to detect skeletal metastasis in known malignancies. However, it's high sensitivity and low specificity may account for false positive diagnosis in cases of trauma, infection, inflammation and other benign conditions. Skeletal hemangioma is one of the common benign conditions which are typically ametabolic on FDG PET CT with no uptake on bone scan.

Using complex networks towards information retrieval and diagnostics in multidimensional imaging.

We present a fresh and broad yet simple approach towards information retrieval in general and diagnostics in particular by applying the theory of complex networks on multidimensional, dynamic images. We demonstrate a successful use of our method with the time series generated from high content thermal imaging videos of patients suffering from the aqueous deficient dry eye (ADDE) disease. Remarkably, network analyses of thermal imaging time series of contact lens users and patients upon whom Laser-Assisted in situ Keratomileusis (Lasik) surgery has been conducted, exhibit pronounced similarity with results obtained from ADDE patients.

Penetrating keratoplasty restoring vision in an unusual case of corneal opacity following exposure to Euphorbia latex.

The milky sap of the Euphorbia plant is highly toxic and causes inflammation to the skin and eyes. Damage to the eye ranges from superficial epithelial defects, keratoconjunctivitis, mild to moderate corneal edema, anterior uveitis, Descemet membrane folds, raised intraocular pressure and rarely corneal opacity in severe untreated cases. Here we report a case of visual restoration by optical penetrating keratoplasty in a patient with severe corneal opacity following exposure to Euphorbia latex.

Comparison of autologous in situ blood coagulum versus sutures for conjunctival autografting after pterygium excision.

Our aim was to compare the efficacy and safety of autologous in-situ blood coagulum versus sutures for attaching conjunctival limbal autografts (CAG) among patients undergoing primary pterygium excision over a period of 1 year. Thirty-two eyes of 32 patients with primary pterygium were randomly divided in into two groups: group I (16 eyes) underwent CAG with 10-0 monofilament nylon sutures and group II (16 eyes) underwent CAG with patient's own in-situ blood coagulum acting as bioadhesive or fixative followed by bandaging for 48 h. Patients were followed up postoperatively on the 2nd day, 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 12 months.

A dose range finding study of novel oral insulin (IN-105) under fed conditions in type 2 diabetes mellitus subjects.

Aim: The objective of the study was to establish the dose response of IN-105 tablets and explore a possible therapeutic window in type 2 diabetes subjects poorly controlled on metformin.

Methods: The primary objective was to examine the effect of sequential single ascending doses of IN-105 on the plasma glucose concentration under fed conditions. All subjects received, sequentially, matching placebo, 10, 15, 20 and 30 mg IN-105 tablets in five consecutive periods.

Determination of bioequivalence of lomefloxacin tablets using urinary excretion data.

The present study describes development of a sensitive and simple HPTLC method for estimation of lomefloxacin (LMF) in human urine. The drug was extracted using chloroform after adjusting the pH of urine to 7.0.

Development of a sensitive high-performance thin-layer chromatography method for estimation of ranitidine in urine and its application for bioequivalence decision for ranitidine tablet formulations.

A sensitive and simple HPTLC method was developed for estimation of ranitidine in human urine. The drug was extracted from urine after basification using dichloromethane. Dichloromethane extract was spotted on silica gel 60 F254 TLC plate and was developed in a mixture of ethyl acetate-methanol-ammonia (35:10:5 v/v) as the mobile phase and scanned at 320 nm.

Losartan (LST) is the first orally active nonpeptide angiotensin-II receptor antagonist with an improved safety and tolerability profile. It is prescribed alone or in combination with hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) for the treatment of moderate-to-severe hypertension. This paper describes the development of 2 methods that use different techniques, first-derivative spectroscopy and high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC), to determine LST and HCTZ in the presence of each other.

Impaired bioavailability of rifampicin in presence of isoniazid from fixed dose combination (FDC) formulation.

The present study describes comparative bioavailability of rifampicin (RIF) after administration of a single component RIF (450 mg) capsule and rifampicin-isoniazid (RIF-INH) (450+300 mg) fixed dose combination (FDC) capsule formulations. Six healthy male volunteers participated in a single dose, two treatment, two period, cross-over study. A sensitive, specific and accurate HPTLC method was developed, validated and employed for estimation of RIF and its major active metabolite, 25-Desacetylrifampicin (25-DAR) levels, in urine.

Stability of rifampicin in dissolution medium in presence of isoniazid.

Rifampicin (RIF) hydrolyzes in acidic medium to form insoluble and poorly absorbed 3-Formyl rifamycin SV (3-FRSV). This study describes development of two principally different methods, Dual Wavelength UV-Vis. spectrophotometry (DW spectrophotometry) and HPTLC, to determine 3-FRSV in presence of RIF.
