Integrating Dental Professionals Into Aged Care With Focus on Australia: A Scoping Review.

Objectives: To summarise the current evidence on the involvement of dental hygienists (DHs) in residential aged care facilities (RACFs) with respect to the feasibility of integration improved oral health for residents with dementia and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Background: The oral health of RACF residents with dementia is reported to be poor. However, little is known about how DHs can be integrated into RACFs to improve oral health, particularly as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Opening the digital doorway to sexual healthcare: Recommendations from a behaviour change wheel analysis of barriers and facilitators to seeking online sexual health information and support among underserved populations.

Background: The ability to access and navigate online sexual health information and support is increasingly needed in order to engage with wider sexual healthcare. However, people from underserved populations may struggle to pass though this "digital doorway". Therefore, using a behavioural science approach, we first aimed to identify barriers and facilitators to i) seeking online sexual health information and ii) seeking online sexual health support.

General practice chlamydia testing: qualitative study of staff approaches using behavioural change theory.

Background: Chlamydia is the most diagnosed bacterial sexually transmitted infection in England, but opportunistic testing remains low in general practice despite high prevalence among young people. Attempts to increase testing have been met with little success; therefore, there is a need to explore why rates remain low and how this may be improved.

Aim: To explore general practice staff perceptions of opportunistic chlamydia testing, including barriers, facilitators, interventions, and policies, using the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW).

Structure-Based Discovery and Development of Highly Potent Dihydroorotate Dehydrogenase Inhibitors for Malaria Chemoprevention.

Malaria remains a serious global health challenge, yet treatment and control programs are threatened by drug resistance. Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) was clinically validated as a target for treatment and prevention of malaria through human studies with DSM265, but currently no drugs against this target are in clinical use. We used structure-based computational tools including free energy perturbation (FEP+) to discover highly ligand efficient, potent, and selective pyrazole-based DHODH inhibitors through a scaffold hop from a pyrrole-based series.

Neuropsychological Symptoms and Functional Capacity in Older Adults with Chronic Pain.

The impact of chronic pain on neuropsychological functioning of older adults is under-studied. The present study examined the relationship between chronic pain, depression, anxiety, cognition, and functional capacity in community-dwelling older adults (ages 60-89) who completed an outpatient neuropsychological evaluation ( = 452). Psychometrically sound and validated measures were used to assess depression (Geriatric Depression Scale [GDS]), anxiety (Beck Anxiety Inventory [BAI]), cognitive functioning (the Mini Mental Status Exam [MMSE] and the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status [RBANS]), and functional capacity (Texas Functional Living Scale [TFLS] and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Questionnaire [IADL]).

Rationalizing mAb Candidate Screening Using a Single Holistic Developability Parameter.

A framework for the rational selection of a minimal suite of nondegenerate developability assays (DAs) that maximize insight into candidate developability or storage stability is lacking. To address this, we subjected nine formulation:mAbs to 12 mechanistically distinct DAs together with measurement of their accelerated and long-term storage stability. We show that it is possible to identify a reduced set of key variables from this suite of DAs by using orthogonal statistical methods.

BE-CALM: a clinical score to predict weight loss after conversion from sleeve gastrectomy to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.

Background: Conversion from sleeve gastrectomy (SG) to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) may be indicated for patients due to insufficient weight loss or weight regain.

Objectives: To assess weight loss outcomes and factors predictive of improved weight loss in patients undergoing RYGB after SG and create an algorithm to estimate postoperative weight loss in these patients.

Twisted Gut, Stricken Liver: A Case of Ischemic Hepatitis From Caecal Volvulus.

Caecal volvulus, accounting for a significant proportion of colonic volvulus cases, involves the axial twisting of the mobile caecum. While ischemic hepatitis is conventionally associated with specific etiologies, reports linking it to caecal volvulus are scarce. This case report describes a noteworthy presentation of ischemic hepatitis triggered by caecal volvulus in an elderly woman of 80 years who presented with acute epigastric pain and laboratory evidence of acute liver injury, prompting imaging studies that unveiled features suggestive of caecal volvulus.

Pharmacist Medication Titration Program for Patients With Cardiac Sarcoidosis and Systolic Heart Failure: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Background: A multidisciplinary approach improves guideline-directed medical therapy in systolic heart failure (HF), but its efficacy in patients with HF due to cardiac sarcoidosis is unreported.

Methods And Results: In a retrospective cohort study, we reviewed 848 patients from our institutional cardiac sarcoidosis clinics, identifying those with a cardiac sarcoidosis diagnosis, HF (left ventricular ejection fraction <50%) at index evaluation, and echocardiograms within 90 days and 11 to 36 months. Patients were stratified by participation in a pharmacist-led medication therapy management (MTM) program for guideline-directed medical therapy optimization (MTM versus non-MTM [NMTM]) without randomization.

Qualitative exploration of the barriers and facilitators to community pharmacy PrEP delivery for UK pharmacists and underserved community members using the COM-B model of behaviour change.

Objectives: Expanding delivery of oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to community pharmacies could improve access, aligning well with the UK government's goals to eliminate new HIV acquisitions by 2030. Using the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation, Behaviour (COM-B) model for behaviour change, the aim of this research was to explore the barriers and facilitators of community pharmacy PrEP delivery, for pharmacists and community members.

Methods: Community members at elevated risk of acquiring HIV and community pharmacists were recruited to participate in semi-structured interviews.

Preregistered test of whether a virtual nose reduces cybersickness.

Recent findings suggest that adding a visual depiction of a nose to virtual reality displays (virtual nose) can reduce motion sickness. If so, this would be a simple intervention that could improve the experience of a variety of VR applications. However, only one peer-reviewed study has reported a benefit from a virtual nose, and the effect was observed in a single low-powered experiment.

Ceftriaxone-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae detected in England, 2015-24: an observational analysis.

Objectives: Since June 2022, there has been a rise in the number of ceftriaxone-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae cases detected in England (n = 15), of which a third were XDR. We describe the demographic and clinical details of the recent cases and investigate the phenotypic and molecular characteristics of the isolates. For a comprehensive overview, we also reviewed 16 ceftriaxone-resistant cases previously identified in England since December 2015 and performed a global genomic comparison of all publicly available ceftriaxone-resistant N.

Phase 1 dose-escalation trial evaluating a group 2 influenza hemagglutinin stabilized stem nanoparticle vaccine.

The relative conservation of the influenza hemagglutinin (HA) stem compared to that of the immunodominant HA head makes the HA stem an attractive target for broadly protective influenza vaccines. Here we report the first-in-human, dose-escalation, open-label trial (NCT04579250) evaluating an unadjuvanted group 2 stabilized stem ferritin nanoparticle vaccine based on the H10 A/Jiangxi-Donghu/346/2013 influenza HA, H10ssF, in healthy adults. Participants received a single 20 mcg dose (n = 3) or two 60 mcg doses 16 weeks apart (n = 22).

Minimum intraoperative testing battery for cochlear implantation: the international practice trend.

Purpose: In cochlear implantation (CI) surgery, there are a wide variety of intraoperative tests available. However, no clear guide exists on which tests must be performed as the minimum intraoperative testing battery. Toward this end, we studied the usage patterns, recommendations, and attitudes of practitioners toward intraoperative testing.

Associations of Primary Spoken Language With Individual Perception of Hearing-Related Disability.

Objectives: Hispanic/Latino adults are less likely than non-Hispanic White adults to seek treatment for hearing disability. While differential socioeconomic factors may contribute to this finding, differences in phonology and syntax in the Spanish, versus English, language may also influence patient perception of hearing disability. The objective of this study is to investigate the association between primary language spoken and participant perception of hearing disability.

"The healthcare system did fail me repeatedly": a qualitative study on experiences of healthcare among Canadian women with Cushing's syndrome.

Background: As a rare endocrine disorder, Cushing's Syndrome (Cushing's) is characterized by numerous symptoms and a non-specific presentation, leading to a delay to diagnosis for patients with this disease. To date, research examining the lived experiences of patients with Cushing's in healthcare is absent in the literature. This preliminary inquiry into the healthcare experiences of women with Cushing's aimed to examine the utility of this line of inquiry to support the patient centered care of individuals with Cushing's.
