Expert Opinion on the Role of Sacubitril/Valsartan in the Management of Hypertension in India.

Hypertension, a key modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD), significantly contributes to premature death and morbidity worldwide. Despite stabilization in age-adjusted global prevalence, the absolute number of hypertensive individuals doubled from 2000 to 2010, largely due to increases in low- and middle-income countries. In 2021, only 21% of hypertensive individuals globally had effective blood pressure (BP) control.

Hybrid approach in a difficult case of pseudoaneurysm of right common carotid artery.

We present the case of a 65-year-old gentleman, who presented with a symptomatic pseudoaneurysm of the right common carotid artery. Because of high surgical risk, endovascular approach was decided upon. However, taking hardware across the lesion via the aortic arch provided us with insurmountable difficulties.

Transcatheter therapy for Lutembacher's syndrome: The road less travelled.

An 18-year-old male with Lutembacher's syndrome underwent balloon mitral valvotomy (BMV) and device closure of the atrial septal defect (ASD). BMV necessitated technical modification of taking the Inoue balloon over the wire (OTW) into the left ventricle (LV). The procedure was complicated by slippage of ASD device into the right atrium, which was managed successfully by percutaneous retrieval, and deployment of a larger device.

Percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty under neuroprotection: Too Early for Knighthood.

The case describes the successful percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty under neuroprotection in a patient with severe symptomatic mitral stenosis and persistent left atrial appendage thrombus despite chronic warfarin therapy. Although the procedure was uneventful for any systemic embolism, the limitations of this approach are highlighted with authors still advocating that surgery remains the benchmark treatment for these patients. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
