COVID-19 vaccine acceptance, hesitancy, and associated factors among medical students in Sudan.

Background: The COVID-19 vaccination in Sudan launched in March 2021 but the extent of its acceptance has not been formally studied. This study aimed to determine the acceptance and hesitancy of the COVID-19 vaccine and associated factors among medical students in Sudan.

Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using an online self-administered questionnaire designed on Google Form and sent to randomly-selected medical students via their Telegram accounts from 30th June to 11th July 2021.

Unusual oral expulsion of adult Taenia worm through vomiting.

A 49-year-old woman with a history of abdominal discomfort and raw beef intake vomited a long adult Taenia after an episode of acute febrile illness. This case report describes that Taeniasis can rarely present with oral expulsion of the tapeworm. Acute physiologic stress due to illness or surgery could be implicated.

Chronic kidney disease entertained from Lindsay's nails: A case report and literature review.

The presence of Lindsay's nails in a patient with a risk factor for chronic kidney disease could be a valuable clue to an underlying long-standing renal impairment, particularly when serum creatinine level is not at hand.

Prevalence of hepatitis B virus genotypes among patients with liver disease in Eritrea.

Eritrea is an East African multiethnic country with an intermediate endemicity for hepatitis B. Our aim was to establish the most prevalent genotypes of hepatitis B virus (HBV) among patients with liver disease. A total of 293 Eritrean patients with liver disease who were hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) positive were enrolled.

Prevalence of chronic hepatitis B phases in Eritrean patients: a laboratory-based cross-sectional study.

Background: Understanding the natural history of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) virus infection is important for determining optimal management and predicting prognosis in patients. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of different phases of CHB infection among Eritrean patients and to identify the proportion of patients who are eligible for treatment according to the latest American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) guidelines.

Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled 293 CHB patients (213 males and 80 females) between Jan 2017 and Feb 2019.

Distribution of breast lesions diagnosed by cytology examination in symptomatic patients at Eritrean National Health Laboratory, Asmara, Eritrea: a retrospective study.

Background: Fine needle aspiration cytology is a simple, relatively accurate, non-invasive, and cost-effective method of diagnosing most breast pathologies. To date, there is no sufficient data depicting the distribution of breast lesions detected by fine needle aspiration cytology in our healthcare setting. The aim of this study was to elucidate the general distribution of breast lesions diagnosed by cytology test at Eritrean National Health Laboratory.

Intradialytic complications among patients on twice-weekly maintenance hemodialysis: an experience from a hemodialysis center in Eritrea.

Background: Twice-weekly maintenance hemodialysis sessions in patients with end stage renal disease are commonly practiced due to economic constraints in developing countries including Eritrea. To ameliorate the paucity of data on the subject, our study aims to shed light on the patterns of intradialytic complications exclusively in patients undergoing twice-weekly hemodialysis in the country.

Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from March 01 to July 31, 2018 at Dialysis Unit of Orotta National Referral Hospital, Asmara, Eritrea in patients with end stage renal disease undergoing twice-weekly hemodialysis.
