Renal dysplasia with extrarenal calyces.

We describe a case of simple renal dysplasia with extrarenal calyces of the left kidney in a 2-year-old boy. Other anomalies also included pelviureteral junction obstruction and ectopic ureterocele on the same side, as well as grade V vesico-ureteral reflux on the opposite side.

Screening program for prostate cancer at a university hospital in eastern Saudi Arabia.

Objective: Implementation of a pilot screening program for prostate cancer among Saudi patients that would serve as a nucleus for a Kingdom-wide screening program.

Methods: A prospective study on 1,213 Saudi males between 50-80 years of age who attended the Outpatient Department at King Fahd Hospital of King Faisal University, Al-Khobar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during a period of 18 months (April 2001-October 2002). They were included at random from different clinics including the urology clinic.

Study of pelvicaliceal anatomy by helical computerized tomography. Is it feasible?

Objective: To evaluate the role of 3-dimensional images produced by computerized tomography (CT), using intravenous contrast to study pelvicaliceal anatomy. This might be of help in endourological procedures.

Methods: The study was conducted in King Fahd Hospital of the University, King Faisal University, Dammam, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Prostate specific antigen reference ranges in Saudi men.

Objective: The aim of this study is to find out the age-specific and population-specific values of prostate specific antigen (PSA) among Saudi men. Normal values for different age groups between 40 and 89 years will be obtained.
