Parasitic diseases of zoonotic importance in humans of northeast India, with special reference to ocular involvement.

Parasitic zoonotic diseases are prevalent in India, including the northeastern states. Proper epidemiological data are lacking from this part of the country on zoonotic parasitic diseases, and newer diseases are emerging in the current scenario. Systemic manifestation of such diseases as cysticercosis, paragonimiasis, hydatidosis, and toxoplasmosis are fairly common.

No-patch 23-gauge vitrectomy under topical anesthesia: a pilot study.

A pilot study was designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of 23-gauge vitrectomy under topical anesthesia. Five eyes of five patients underwent 23-gauge sutureless vitrectomy under topical anesthesia with a pledget soaked in 0.5% proparacaine hydrochloride anesthetic, for vitreous hemorrhage (four eyes), epiretinal membrane (one eye).

Neuro and intraocular cysticercosis: A clinicopathological case report.

Cysticercosis is one of the most common parasitic infestations in humans. Neurocysticercosis (NCC) is the commonest parasitosis of the central nervous system (CNS), endemic in developing countries and is also seen in developed nations with high rates of immigration from prevalent areas. Co-infection of ocular tissue is also significant and often ophthalmologists come across these lesions in their clinical practice.

Verteporfin photodynamic therapy of retinal capillary hemangioblastoma in von Hippel-Lindau disease.

An 18-year-old boy presented to us with bilateral retinal hemangioblastoma and von Hippel-Lindau disease with history of cerebral capillary hemangioblastoma and embryonic cell carcinoma of left testes. The vision in the right eye was already lost with development of secondary closed angle glaucoma, optic atrophy with subsequent development of bullous keratopathy. The multiple retinal angiomatous lesions in the seeing left eye were treated with various modalities like triple freeze thaw cryopexy, focal lasers and transpupillary thermo therapy in multiple sittings over a period of almost 20 years since detection.

Management of posteriorly dislocated endocapsular tension ring and intraocular lens complex.

We report a case of late posteriorly dislocated endocapsular tension ring (ECR) and intraocular lens (IOL) complex into the vitreous cavity that behaved as a single 13 mm disc. A 3-port pars plana vitrectomy was performed, and perfluorocarbon liquid was used to retrieve the ECR-IOL complex to the retropupillary area. A 3-point scleral fixation was performed to reposition the inseparable ECR-IOL complex.

Management of a posteriorly dislocated endocapsular tension ring and a foldable acrylic intraocular lens.

We report a rare case of late spontaneous extension of a posterior capsule tear from lateral traction of an endocapsular ring, resulting in dislocation of the capsular tension ring and acrylic intraocular lens (IOL) into the vitreous cavity. A 3-port pars plana vitrectomy was performed to explant the prostheses; the eye was made pseudophakic by placement of a scleral-fixated posterior chamber IOL. The combined triple procedure was safe and effective.
