Genetic gain for rice yield in rainfed environments in India.

The complexity of genotype × environment interactions under drought reduces heritability, which determines the effectiveness of selection for drought tolerance and development of drought tolerant varieties. Genetic progress measured through changes in yield performance over time is important in determining the efficiency of breeding programmes in which test cultivars are replaced each year on the assumption that the new cultivars will surpass the older cultivars. The goal of our study was to determine the annual rate of genetic gain for rice grain yield in a drought-prone rainfed system in a series of multi-environment trials conducted from 2005 to 2014 under the Drought Breeding Network of Indian sites in collaboration with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).

Materials And Methods: This study was a longitudinal study conducted from March 2017 to March 2018. Patients admitted with liver cirrhosis at inpatient hepatology service in Tertiary Health Care Centre, Mysore, India, were included for the study.

The purpose of this study was to ascertain the effect of EHR implementation on medical intensive care unit (MICU) mortality, length of stay (LOS), hospital LOS and medication errors.

Numerous mechanisms underlie chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD), including skewing of Th1/Th2 cytokine expression. There are biological differences between early-onset and late-onset cGVHD. To test whether different Th1/Th2 cytokines are associated with early- or late-onset cGVHD, peripheral blood was collected from 63 children enrolled on the Children's Oncology Group Phase III trial ASCT0031 evaluating hydroxychloroquine therapy for newly diagnosed extensive cGVHD.

Chiropractic services have been delivered on station at select Veterans Health Administration (VHA) medical facilities since late 2004. No published data describing the characteristics of VHA chiropractic physicians (chiropractors) and chiropractic clinics exist at a national level. This study was designed to examine elements of the structures of chiropractic services in VHA settings.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and opioids are the most commonly used analgesics in the management of acute and chronic pain. Combined use of NSAIDs and opioids has been indicated for achieving better analgesia with reduced side effects. The present study was aimed at evaluating the combination of different NSAIDs, which inhibit cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes and tramadol against acetic acid-induced writhing in mice.

Effect of selective inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2 on lipopolysaccharide-induced hyperalgesia.

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is known to increase the expression and release of various pro-inflammatory mediators, including cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and produce hyperalgesia. It is also well known that prostaglandins (PGs), synthesised both in the periphery and centrally by COX isoforms, play a key role in sensitisation of nociceptors and nociceptive processing. To investigate the role of COX-2 in LPS-induced hyperalgesia, parecoxib, a selective COX-2-inhibiting pro-drug, was injected intravenously 30 min before assessing hyperalgesia induced by intraperitoneal or subcutaneous administration of LPS (50 microg/mouse or 25 microg/paw of rat, respectively).

Effect of U-74500A, a 21-aminosteroid on renal ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats.

Renal ischemia-reperfusion injury constitutes the most common pathogenic factor for acute renal failure and is the main contributor to renal dysfunction in allograft recipients and revascularization surgeries. Many studies have demonstrated that reactive oxygen species play an important role in ischemic acute renal failure. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of the synthetic antioxidant U-74500A, a 21-aminosteroid in a rat model of renal ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Oxidative stress-mediated renal dysfunction by cyclosporine A in rats: attenuation by trimetazidine.

Cyclosporine A (CsA) is one of the first line immunosuppressants employed in the management of solid organ transplantation and autoimmune diseases. The clinical utility of CsA is limited by the frequent occurrence of chronic nephrotoxicity, characterized by tubular atrophy, interstitial fibrosis and progressive renal impairment. The pathogenesis of CsA nephrotoxicity is still not well delineated.

Quercetin, a bioflavonoid, protects against oxidative stress-related renal dysfunction by cyclosporine in rats.

Nephrotoxicity is the most common and clinically important side effect of cyclosporine (CsA). Recent evidence suggests that reactive oxygen species (ROS) play an important role in CsA nephrotoxicity. This study was designed to demonstrate the role of oxidative stress and its relation to renal dysfunction and to investigate the effects of quercetin, a bioflavonoid with antioxidant properties, in CsA-induced nephrotoxicity.

A new phorbol diester from Aleurites moluccana.

A new phorbol diester, 13-O-myristyl-20-O-acetyl-12-deoxyphorbol (1), has been isolated from the benzene extract of the heartwood of Aleurites moluccana. In addition, hentriacontane, 6,7-dimethoxycoumarin, 5,6,7-trimethoxycoumarin and beta-sitostenone are being reported for the first time from this species.

Brachial plexus and related lesions after median sternotomy.

A prospective study was undertaken in 459 cases, undergoing open heart surgery which necessitated media sternotomy, to see the frequency of brachial plexus and peripheral nerve related complications in the upper limbs. Seven cases (1.53) had such complications.

Thrombolysis in left-sided prosthetic valve occlusion: immediate and follow-up results.

Thrombolytic therapy is used increasingly for prosthetic valve thrombosis. Fear of peripheral embolism has limited its use in left-sided valve occlusions. Thirty-eight patients with prosthetic valve occlusion were treated with thrombolytic agents on 44 occasions.

A study of four major areas in out patient department of NIMS with special reference to patient satisfaction.

A study of patient satisfaction was undertaken in four major Out-patient Departments of General Medicine, Cardiology, Orthopaedics and Neurology which accounts for nearly 70-80% of the Out-patient visits. The study was conducted through distribution of structured questionnaire for a period of six months with a total sample of 300 questions. Keeping in view the working hours, registration pattern, waiting time of various services, the work load and the patient's satisfaction for various services were studied.
