This article reviews anticoagulant medications used for obstetric patients who have acute thrombosis or who require anticoagulant therapy for other indications. Medication options, dosing and monitoring, side effects, and complications are reviewed. Antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum management of therapy is discussed, as well as breastfeeding options.

Are placental Fas and Fas ligand gene polymorphisms associated with preeclampsia?

Objective: Increased placental trophoblastic apoptosis has been reported in pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia. Fas-Fas ligand is one of the major signal transduction pathways of apoptosis. The objective of this study was to determine if placental Fas and Fas ligand gene polymorphisms differ between patients with and without preeclampsia.

Polymorphism of Fas and Fas ligand in preterm premature rupture of membranes in singleton pregnancies.

Objective: Fetal inflammatory response has been previously shown to be involved in the pathogenesis of preterm premature rupture of membranes. We investigated the association between polymorphisms at position -670 in the Fas gene and position -124 in the Fas ligand gene demonstrated in neonatal oral mucosa cells and preterm premature rupture of membranes.

Study Design: Thirty-six singleton pregnancies were studied.
