Objective: Caroverine is an antagonist of non-NMDA and NMDA glutamate receptors. Cochlear synaptic tinnitus arises from a synaptic disturbance of NMDA or non-NMDA receptors on the afferent dendrites of spiral ganglion neurons. This forms a basis for the use of caroverine in the treatment of tinnitus.

This study aimed to evaluate the material properties of four dental cements, analyze the stress distribution on the cement layer under various loading conditions, and perform failure analysis on the fractured specimens retrieved from mechanical tests. Microhardness indentation testing is used to measure material hardness microscopically with a diamond indenter. The hardness and elastic moduli of three self-adhesive resin cements (SARC), namely, DEN CEM (DENTEX, Changchun, China), Denali (Glidewell Laboratories, CA, USA), and Glidewell Experimental SARC (GES-Glidewell Laboratories, CA, USA), and a resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI-Glidewell Laboratories, CA, USA) cement, were measured using microhardness indentation.

Young's modulus of elasticity (or stiffness, E) is an important material property for many applications of polymers and polymer-matrix composites. The common methods of measuring E are by measuring the velocity of ultrasonic pulses through the material or by resistance to flexure, but it is difficult for ultrasound to penetrate polymers that contain filler particles, and flexural measurements require large specimens that may not mimic the clinical case. Thus, it may be difficult to determine E using conventional techniques.

Materials And Methods: Three-unit zirconia bridges were milled using CAD/CAM from homogeneous bisque zirconia blanks (5Y-PSZ-based) supplied by various manufacturers and sintered. Fracture resistance was analyzed with dynamic loading.

Methods: A dental implant assembly (DI1, Biomet-3i external hex; Zimmer Biomet) was scanned using microcomputed tomography and measured using Mimics software (Materialise) and an optical microscope. Digital replicas were constructed using SolidWorks software (Dassault Systèmes).
Background: To evaluate the effect of bone remodelling around a reduced-diameter dental implant on its fatigue limit using finite element analysis (FEA).
Methods: A dental implant assembly, which included a reduced-diameter dental implant (Biomet-3i external hex), an abutment (GingiHue) and a connector screw (Gold-Tite Square screw), was scanned using micro-computed tomography (Skyscan 1172). Its dimensions were measured using Mimics (Materialise) and an optical microscope (Keyence).

In a cancer study, the heterogeneous nature of a cell population creates a lot of challenges. Efficient determination of the compositional breakup of a cell population, from gene expression measurements, is critical to the success in a cancer study. This paper presents a new model for analyzing heterogeneity in cancer tissue using Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithms; we aim to compute the proportion wise breakup of the cell population on a GPU.

Background: Poly lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) has been widely investigated for various biomedical applications, such as craniofacial bone regeneration, wound dressing and tissue engineering. Electrospinning is a versatile technology used to produce micro/nanoscale fibers with large specific surface area and high porosity.
Purpose: The aim of the current study is to prepare PLGA nanofibers using electrospinning for guided tissue regeneration/guided bone regeneration applications.
Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) has been shown to be similarly regulated by multiple miRNAs, some displaying little or no sequence identity. While alternate models have been proposed to explain the functional convergence of sequence divergent miRNAs, little experimental evidence exists to elucidate the underlying mechanisms involved. Representative members of the miR-200 family of miRNAs and the sequence divergent miR-205 miRNA were independently over expressed in mesenchymal-like ovarian cancer (OC) cells resulting in mesenchymal-to-epithelial transition (MET).

Objective: To estimate mortality due to firearm injury deaths from 1990 to 2016 in 195 countries and territories.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This study used deidentified aggregated data including 13 812 location-years of vital registration data to generate estimates of levels and rates of death by age-sex-year-location.
Importance: The increasing burden due to cancer and other noncommunicable diseases poses a threat to human development, which has resulted in global political commitments reflected in the Sustainable Development Goals as well as the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Action Plan on Non-Communicable Diseases. To determine if these commitments have resulted in improved cancer control, quantitative assessments of the cancer burden are required.
Objective: To assess the burden for 29 cancer groups over time to provide a framework for policy discussion, resource allocation, and research focus.

Three-dimensional (3-D) printing is a method of manufacturing in which materials like plastic or metal are deposited onto one another in layers to produce a 3-D object. Because of the complex anatomy of craniomaxillofacial structures, full recovery of craniomaxillofacial tissues from trauma, surgeries, or congenital malformations is extremely challenging. 3-D printing of scaffolds, tissue analogs, and organs has been proposed as an exciting alternative to address some of these key challenges in craniomaxillofacial surgery.

Objective: To report results of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2015 study on primary liver cancer incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) for 195 countries or territories from 1990 to 2015, and present global, regional, and national estimates on the burden of liver cancer attributable to HBV, HCV, alcohol, and an “other” group that encompasses residual causes.
Importance: Comprehensive and timely monitoring of disease burden in all age groups, including children and adolescents, is essential for improving population health.
Objective: To quantify and describe levels and trends of mortality and nonfatal health outcomes among children and adolescents from 1990 to 2015 to provide a framework for policy discussion.
Evidence Review: Cause-specific mortality and nonfatal health outcomes were analyzed for 195 countries and territories by age group, sex, and year from 1990 to 2015 using standardized approaches for data processing and statistical modeling, with subsequent analysis of the findings to describe levels and trends across geography and time among children and adolescents 19 years or younger.
The Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) is witnessing an increase in chronic disorders, including mental illness. With ongoing unrest, this is expected to rise. This is the first study to quantify the burden of mental disorders in the EMR.

Objective: To estimate mortality, incidence, years lived with disability (YLDs), years of life lost (YLLs), and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) for 32 cancers in 195 countries and territories from 1990 to 2015.
A functionalized nanohydrogel siRNA delivery system and a mouse model of serous ovarian cancer were used to test predictions from previous cell line studies that knockdown of EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) may be of clinical significance in the treatment of epithelial tumors especially with respect to the enhancement of platinum based therapies. Our results support these predictions and suggest that targeted delivery of EGFR siRNA may be an effective strategy for the treatment of ovarian and other epithelial tumors associated with elevated levels of EGFR and especially those demonstrating resistance to platinum-based therapies.
