To determine changes in platelet activity, prostaglandin metabolism and catecholamine release along with changes in hemodynamics during exercise, we measured these parameters before and immediately after treadmill exercise. Measurements were made on peripheral arterial blood simultaneously with a direct aortic pressure recording in 30 patients with coronary artery disease (Group 1), in 20 patients without significant coronary disease (Group 2), and in 11 young healthy volunteers as controls. At the peak of the exercise regimen, the ST segment depression was found to be significantly lower in Group 1 than in Group 2, whereas the changes in the DPTI/TTI ratio in Group 2 and the controls decreased with the increase in the duration of exercise.

The advance in knowledge of clinical disorders involving calcium and bone diseases has resulted in part from the development of assay procedures for the major vitamin D metabolites, but the values of the same samples measured in different laboratories vary considerably. They suggest that the chromatographic purification involved in these assays seems to be a critical step. In this study, we compared the results of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25(OH)2D) using different chromatographic purification methods: Sephadex LH-20 column chromatographic purification (non-HPLC method) described by Mallon et al.

To analyse the cause of such icteric flare-up, a retrospective study was made on 27 patients. A total of 38 episodes of icteric flare-up occurred in 19 patients.

However, there is a high recurrence rate because lymphangiomas tend to infiltrate the surrounding tissues. Bleomycin in a microsphere-in-oil (S/O) emulsion was used in this study as a sclerosing agent for lymphangiomas.

Age and sex distributions, the cardiothoracic ratio, left ventricular end-diastolic pressure, ejection fraction and coronary artery obstructions of the patients did not differ significantly between the two tests. Arterial blood samples were obtained to assay for plasma catecholamine, beta-thromboglobulin (beta TG), platelet factor 4 (PF4), TXB2 (thromboxane B2) and 6 keto-PGF1-alpha (6 ketoprostaglandin F1-alpha) without any difficulties before and immediately after testing.

The use of vitamin E as a protective agent against adriamycin-induced toxicity in CDF1 and BDF1 mice resulted in potentiation of the chemotherapeutic index of adriamycin. A single dose of 15 mg of adriamycin per kg body weight produced a significantly reduced mean survival time. A dosage of adriamycin of 15 mg per kg body weight was employed in the following experiments.

Using a special catheter with two external thermistors 5 cm apart, the great cardiac vein (GCV) outflow and coronary sinus (CS) outflow were measured. Coronary inflows in the left anterior descending (LAD) and circumflex (LCX) arteries were measured by electromagnetic flow probes during arterial occlusion or bolus arterial injection of nitroglycerin and dipyridamole injection in a peripheral vein.

The influence of the nutritional state induced by D deficiency was also evaluated. The long term supplementation of either D, Ca, or both restored the body weight and improved insulin secretion induced by high glucose concentration to the same extent; thus, no significant difference in insulin secretion was found between the D-only-supplemented group and the Ca-only-supplemented group.

We measured the renal 25-OHD3-1 alpha-hydroxylase activity and compared it to that of C57BL/6J normal male mice. The enzyme activity in control diet Hyp-mice was not different from that in control diet normal mice, but it was considerably lower than that in hypophosphatemic normal mice.

Seventy-nine percent of those 113 cases had complications, while 21% of the cases were suffered from juxtapapillary duodenal diverticula alone. Among the complications, cholelithiasis showed the highest incidence.

Effect of PTCA at rest We studied 10 patients who fulfilled the following criteria, 1) single vessel disease, 2) high grade stenosis in the left anterior descending artery, 3) successful PTCA, 4) no restenosis, 5) without electrocardiographic evidence of previous myocardial infarction, and 6) technically adequate left ventriculograms in both pre and post PTCA studies. Follow-up studies were done six months after PTCA.

Three types of MMC-D, conjugates with dextrans of molecular weights of 10000, 70000 and 500000, were tested and urine concentration of MMC, dextran and spacer were determined by three analytical methods, i.e.

MMC-D contained approximately 10% mitomycin C (MMC) and released active MMC by hydrolysis with a half-life of 24 hours in vivo. In experimental studies, MMC-D was retained at the injection site for about 48 hours and transferred to the lymphatic system.

Healing process of anastomosis and its procedure were studied in following points: Four-interrupted sutures anastomosis in the Wistar rats revealed recanalization without leakage in 64 out of 69. Lymphangial recanalization through the anastomosis was completed within 21 days after operation by Gambee' layer-to-layer anastomosis. While 8 weeks were required by everted or inverted anastomosis.
