Identification and Safety Assessment of KB1733 Isolated from Traditional Japanese Pickle Based on Whole-Genome Sequencing Analysis and Preclinical Toxicity Studies.

The present study involves the precise identification and safety evaluation of KB1733, previously identified using 16S rRNA analysis, through whole-genome sequencing, phenotypic analysis, and preclinical toxicity studies. Analyses based on the genome sequencing data confirm the identity of KB1733 as and show that the genes related to vancomycin resistance are only present on the chromosome, while no virulence factor genes are present on the chromosome or plasmid. Phenotypic analyses of antibiotic resistance and hemolytic activity also indicated no safety concerns.

Anesthetic management with remimazolam for a patient with hereditary angioedema:a case report.

Background: Hereditary angioedema (HAE), a genetic disorder caused by C1-inhibitor deficiency or dysfunction, may cause mucosal edema in the upper airway during tracheal intubation and extubation.

Case Report: A 57-year-old man with HAE and a history of laryngeal edema, scheduled to undergo cervical laminoplasty under general anesthesia. General anesthesia was induced by continuous injection of remimazolam and remifentanil, during which manual mask ventilation and intubation were performed without difficulty.

Pulmonary thrombotic pulmonary hypertension managed using antithrombotic and pulmonary vasodilator treatment.

An 8-year-old Leonberger receiving immunosuppressive treatment with clinical signs of acute dyspnea, cyanosis, and difficulty standing was referred to our institution (Day 1). Treatment including oxygen, clopidogrel, and low-molecular-weight heparin was initiated for suspected pulmonary thrombosis. However, exertional dyspnea persisted until Day 10, and increased tricuspid regurgitation velocity, pulmonary vascular resistance, and McConnell's signs also were observed.

(1) Background: Remimazolam is a novel benzodiazepine that prevents postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), is more effective than volatile anesthetics, and was recently approved for use in Japan. (2) Methods: This prospective, double-blind, randomized controlled trial study aimed to compare the efficacy of remimazolam and propofol as general anesthetics in terms of the incidence of PONV after laparoscopic gynecological surgery (UMIN000046237). High-risk female patients who underwent general anesthesia with either remimazolam or propofol for the maintenance of anesthesia were enrolled.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a life-threatening complication in dogs with cardiopulmonary disease. Epoprostenol is an intravenous pulmonary vasodilator used to treat PH in humans; however, its efficacy in dogs remains unknown. We investigated the cardiovascular effects of epoprostenol and several cardiac agents for acute heart failure in canine models of chronic PH.

Perioperative Management of Recurrent Hemophagocytic Syndrome in a Pregnant Woman: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Hemophagocytic syndrome (HPS) is a rare syndrome characterized by abnormal activation of histiocytes and hemophagocytosis. We report the clinical management of recurrent HPS following 2 cesarean sections in the same patient. CASE REPORT A 33-year-old primiparous mother presented during her second trimester of pregnancy, and HPS was diagnosed based on pancytopenia, hyperferritinemia (13 170 ng/ml), and hemophagocytosis in bone marrow examination.

Effects of broccoli sprout supplements enriched in glucoraphanin on liver functions in healthy middle-aged adults with high-normal serum hepatic biomarkers: A randomized controlled trial.

Sulforaphane (SFN), an isothiocyanate derived from glucoraphanin, has antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects that may be beneficial for improving liver function. However, few studies regarding the effects of glucoraphanin on the biological markers related to liver function, such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and gamma-glutamyltransferase (γ-GTP) in healthy individuals have been reported. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel- group trial was conducted from April 22 to December 25, 2021 and compared the effects of broccoli sprout supplements enriched in glucoraphanin (glucoraphanin supplements) ( = 35) with those of placebo supplements ( = 35).

KB1733 Isolated from a Traditional Japanese Pickle Induces Interferon-Lambda Production in Human Intestinal Epithelial Cells.

The association between lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and their immunostimulatory effects has attracted considerable attention; however, it remains unclear whether LAB can induce interferon-lambdas (IFN-λs) in human epithelial cells under conditions that do not mimic infection. In this study, we first employed a reporter assay to screen for a potential strain capable of inducing IFN-λ3 among 135 LAB strains derived from traditional Japanese pickles. Next, we assessed the strain's ability to induce the expression of IFN-λ genes and interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs), and to produce IFN-λs.

[Monotherapy using a direct oral anticoagulant (apixaban) for catheter thrombosis and pulmonary thromboembolism in a patient with ulcerative colitis: a case report].

A 20-year-old woman with ulcerative colitis flare was admitted to Fukui Red Cross Hospital. During treatment with granulocyte and monocyte apheresis (GMA), the patient complained of chest discomfort and was diagnosed with pulmonary thromboembolism with central intravenous catheter thrombosis. Apixaban, a direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC), was used as monotherapy for anticoagulation, and thromboembolism was resolved without complication.
