Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the prevalence and outcomes of pregnancies with abnormal placentas, based on a systematic review of 48 studies conducted from 1974 to 2022.
  • It found that babies with a circumvallate placenta faced higher risks of cesarean delivery, preterm birth, and placental abruption, while those with a succenturiate lobe also had increased cesarean rates.
  • Overall, the evidence indicates that abnormal placentas are high-risk factors for negative pregnancy outcomes, although more research is needed for definitive conclusions.

Article Synopsis
  • Vasa previa poses a significant risk to fetuses due to possible hemorrhage from unprotected vessels during membrane rupture, leading to serious health issues.
  • The study focused on type III vasa previa, which accounts for 5.7% of all vasa previa cases, reviewing 11 articles spanning from 2011 to 2022 and analyzing data from 13 women.
  • Findings showed that most women were around 35 years old, with a high antenatal detection rate and no neonatal deaths reported, but emphasized the need for more research on type III classification and its outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Vasa previa is a rare but serious condition during pregnancy, with type II accounting for 21.3% of cases identified in a systematic review of 20 studies from 1998 to 2022.
  • The study compared characteristics and outcomes between type I and II vasa previa, finding that rates of assisted reproductive technology, cesarean deliveries, maternal transfusions, and neonatal mortality were similar for both types.
  • Additionally, the review indicated associations between assisted reproductive technology and abnormal placenta conditions, although more research is needed for definitive conclusions.

Article Synopsis
  • Abnormal cord insertion (ACI) is linked to negative pregnancy outcomes, and this study investigates how ACI relates to assisted reproductive technology (ART) and delivery results among affected women.
  • A systematic review analyzed 16 studies published between 1990 and 2021, revealing that ART is associated with higher rates of velamentous cord insertion (VCI) and marginal cord insertion, but the rates for different ART methods were similar.
  • Women with VCI were more likely to undergo both elective and emergency cesarean deliveries, indicating that while ART may raise ACI prevalence, more research is needed to confirm this link and address potential confounding factors.

Background: In recent years, feelings of isolation among mothers caring for small children has become a significant social issue in Japan. The purpose of this study is to develop a message to alleviate their loneliness, to evaluate the impact of social networking sites (SNS) for delivering such messages, and to propose means of more effective information transmission to promote health for mothers raising small children.

Methods: Our study was conducted in two stages, first an interview and then a cross-sectional study of the mothers involving a questionnaire survey.

This study aimed to assess the relationship between placenta accreta spectrum disorder (PASD) and endometriosis. The relationships among pregnancy, assisted reproductive technology (ART), placenta previa, ART-conceived pregnancy and PASD were also determined. A systematic literature review was conducted using multiple computerized databases.

Article Synopsis
  • Among the cases reviewed, five women had eight pregnancies after experiencing mid-trimester uterine rupture, with findings indicating a higher risk of complications like placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) and one case of recurrent rupture.
  • The results stress the importance for healthcare providers to be vigilant about the risks of PAS and uterine rupture in future pregnancies post mid-trimester rupture, highlighting the need for more research in this area.

Endometriosis is a common gynecological disease characterized by chronic inflammation, with an estimated prevalence of approximately 5-15% in reproductive-aged women. This study aimed to assess the relationship between placenta previa (PP) and endometriosis. We performed a systematic review of the literature until 30 June 2021, and 24 studies met the inclusion criteria.

This study examined the effect of hospital surgical volume on oncologic outcomes in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for gynecologic malignancies. The objectives were to assess survival outcomes related to hospital surgical volume and to evaluate perioperative outcomes and examine non-gynecologic malignancies. Literature available from the PubMed, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library databases were systematically reviewed.

This study aimed to review the obstetric complications during subsequent pregnancies after uterine artery embolization (UAE) for postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) by exploring the relationship between prior UAE and obstetric complications through a meta-analysis. We conducted a systematic literature review through March 31, 2021, using PubMed, Scopus, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials in compliance with the PRISMA guidelines and determined the effect of prior UAE for PPH on the rate of placenta accreta spectrum (PAS), PPH, placenta previa, hysterectomy, fetal growth restriction (FGR), and preterm birth (PTB). Twenty-three retrospective studies (2003-2021) met the inclusion criteria.

Background And Objectives: Suspicious peritoneal cytology refers to the result of peritoneal cytology testing that is insufficient in either quality or quantity for a definitive diagnosis of malignancy. This study examined characteristics and survival outcomes related to suspicious peritoneal cytology in endometrial cancer.

Methods: A population-based retrospective study by querying the National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program was conducted.

This study aimed to investigate the cytotoxicity of a cluster of differentiation 70 antibody-drug conjugate (CD70-ADC) against ovarian cancer in in vitro and in vivo xenograft models. CD70 expression was assessed in clinical samples by immunohistochemical analysis. Western blotting and fluorescence-activated cell sorting analyses were used to determine CD70 expression in the ovarian cancer cell lines A2780 and SKOV3, and in the cisplatin-resistant ovarian cancer cell lines A2780cisR and SKOV3cisR.

Increasing evidence suggests a relationship between in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) and placenta accreta spectrum (PAS). Some studies have reported a lower rate of antenatal diagnosis of PAS after IVF-ET compared to PAS with spontaneous conception. This study aimed to review the diagnostic accuracy of PAS after IVF-ET and to explore the relationship between IVF-ET pregnancy and PAS.

Uterine carcinosarcoma (UCS) is a biphasic aggressive high-grade endometrial cancer in which the sarcoma element has de-differentiated from the carcinoma element. UCS is considered a rare tumor, but its incidence has gradually increased in recent years (annual percent change from 2000 to 2016 1.7%, 95% confidence interval 1.

Background: Uterine leiomyosarcoma is a rare and aggressive gynecologic malignancy originating in the myometrium of the uterine corpus that tends to recur even after complete surgical excision. Current therapeutic agents have only modest effects on uterine leiomyosarcoma. Although antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates have been recognized as useful targeted therapies for other cancers, no study has yet evaluated the effects of this approach on uterine leiomyosarcoma.

Background: Uterine artery embolization (UAE) is used to treat severe postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). According to a few studies, UAE for PPH was associated with preterm birth, fetal growth restriction (FGR), and placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) in subsequent pregnancies. These previous studies, however, lacked controls, and to the best of our knowledge, no systematic literature reviews have been conducted thus far.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent research explored the use of smartphones for detecting cervical lesions in patients with abnormal cytology, but data on their effectiveness in gynecologic oncology is limited.
  • In a study of 75 women, two doctors used smartphones and traditional colposcopy to examine the cervix, capturing images and performing biopsies to compare diagnostic effectiveness.
  • The results showed a promising level of agreement between smartphone and colposcopic findings (kappa value of 0.67), with high sensitivity for identifying serious lesions, though specificity was lower, indicating that while smartphones are useful, they may not always be reliable for accurate diagnosis.
