Caspase-11 is an inflammatory caspase that triggers an inflammatory response by regulating non-canonical NLRP3 inflammasome activation. Although the deficiency of both caspase-11 and caspase-1, another inflammatory caspase that functions as an executor of the inflammasome, prevents the development of atherosclerosis, the effect of caspase-11 deficiency alone on the development of atherosclerosis has not been fully evaluated. In the present study, we found that caspase-11 deficiency prevented the formation of the necrotic core, whereas it did not affect the development of atherosclerosis in Apoe-deficient mice.

Carbohydrate response element-binding protein (ChREBP) is critical in the regulation of fatty acid and triglyceride synthesis in the liver. Interestingly, Chrebp-/- mice show reduced levels of plasma cholesterol, which is critical for steroid hormone synthesis in adrenal glands. Furthermore, Chrebp mRNA expression was previously reported in human adrenal glands.

Paraneoplastic nephropathy is a rare complication of malignant disease. We present a case of cervical cancer with biopsy-proven membranous nephropathy and associated nephrotic syndrome. Irradiation to the specific neoplasm site and to the metastatic paraaortic lymph node tissues lead to regression of the nephrotic syndrome without causing severe adverse events.
