Article Synopsis
  • * A study analyzed 4021 patients who underwent endoscopic examination, finding that 23% had Barrett's esophagus and 25% showed signs of bile reflux.
  • * The analysis indicated that bile reflux is a strong independent indicator of Barrett's esophagus, suggesting that patients with bile reflux may benefit from more frequent endoscopic monitoring.

Article Synopsis
  • * A unique case of SAP rupture was linked to a large gastric ulcer caused by infection and the use of NSAIDs, highlighting the importance of understanding different risk factors.
  • * Clinicians must recognize the specific enhanced CT images associated with SAP, be aware of potential complications like splenic infarction, and know about treatment options like arterial embolization for effective management.

Article Synopsis
  • Nodular gastritis is linked to Helicobacter pylori infection, which poses a risk for gastric cancer; this study explores how its histological features vary by age.
  • Researchers analyzed data from over 1,300 patients who had undergone stomach biopsies, focusing on three age groups: pediatric, young adults, and older adults.
  • Results showed that older patients had significantly higher levels of mononuclear and neutrophil cell infiltration in the gastric body compared to younger groups, indicating more severe inflammatory changes in older individuals with nodular gastritis.

This case report describes a 73-year-old woman with pancreatic adenocarcinoma who had undergone a colectomy for colorectal cancer in 1995 and a right mastectomy and axillary dissection for breast cancer in 2013. In January 2019, a tumor, approximately 20mm in diameter, was detected in the pancreatic body. It contained a cyst noted to have delayed perfusion towards the center on abdominal computed tomography.

Unlabelled: Quantifying myocardial T1 values has been useful for detecting and characterizing fibrotic appearance in myocardial infarction, focal scars, and non-ischemic cardiomyopathies. Since pancreatic exocrine function decreases with chronic pancreatic fibrosis advancement, this study examined the correlation between pancreatic T1 values and pancreatic exocrine and endocrine insufficiency.

Methods: Thirty-two patients underwent abdominal contrast-enhanced MRI in our department between October 2017 and February 2019.

Glecaprevir/pibrentasvir (G/P) are direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) that achieve a high sustained virological response (SVR) rate for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. We investigated G/P effectiveness for HCV patients based on real-world experience and the clinical features of retreatment cases. HCV patients (n = 182) were compared for clinical features and outcomes between first treatment (n = 159) and retreatment (n = 23) G/P groups.

We present the case of a 74-year-old Japanese woman who presented with dyspnea, a palpable right breast mass, and swollen right axillary lymph node. Imaging studies revealed bilateral pleural effusion and systemic lymph adenopathy and pleural fluid study showed high levels of triglycerides. A right inguinal lymph node biopsy disclosed malignant lymphoma cells that were human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) provirus DNA-positive, a condition endemic to patient's birthplace, by the Southern blot hybridization method.

Direct-acting antiviral (DAA) treatment can achieve a high sustained virological response (SVR) rate in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection regardless of a history of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC [+]). We examined 838 patients (370 men, median age: 69 years) who were treated with DAAs for comparisons of clinical findings between 79 HCC (+) (9.4%) and 759 HCC (-) (90.
