Although current guidelines recommend the use of prostanoid infusion that includes epoprostenol for high-risk pulmonary arterial hypertension patients, epoprostenol has many adverse effects. We report a case of a heritable pulmonary arterial hypertension patient who had transient biventricular hypertrophy during high-dose administration of epoprostenol. In this case, biventricular hypertrophy with worsening of dyspnea was observed during the uptitration of epoprostenol.

Carbohydrates are key building blocks for advanced functional materials owing to their biological functions and unique material properties. Here, we propose a star-shaped discrete block co-oligomer (BCO) platform to access carbohydrate nanostructures in bulk and thin-film states via the microphase separation of immiscible carbohydrate and hydrophobic blocks (maltooligosaccharides with 1-4 glucose units and solanesol, respectively). Here we report the perfusion culture of a multi-layered tissue composed of HepG2 cells (a human hepatoma line) in a pressure-driven microphysiological system (PD-MPS), which we developed previously as a multi-throughput perfusion culture platform. The perfusion culture of multi-layered tissue model was constructed by inserting a modified commercially available permeable membrane insert into the PD-MPS. HepG2 cells were layered on the membrane, and culture medium was perfused both through and below the membrane.

In response to various stimuli, HMGB1 can translocate from the nucleus to the cytoplasm as well as the extracellular space through passive or active release, accompanied with different post-translational modifications. For highly efficient heat dissipation of thin electronic devices, development of film materials that exhibit high thermal conductivity in the in-plane direction is desired. We compared clinical outcomes associated with seed brachytherapy (SEED-BT) alone and SEED-BT plus external-beam radiotherapy (EBRT) for intermediate-risk prostate cancer using propensity score-matched analysis. From 2006 to 2011, 993 patients diagnosed with intermediate-risk were treated with either SEED-BT alone (n = 775) or SEED-BT plus EBRT (n = 158) at 3 tertiary hospitals. In the propensity score-matched analysis (102 pairs), median follow-up was 95 months (range 18-153 months).
