Evaluation of UK paediatric nephrology teams' understanding, experience and perceptions of oral health outcomes and accessibility to dental care: a mixed-methods study.

Background: Oral health conditions are common in children and young people (CYP) with kidney disorders. There is currently limited literature on how confident paediatric nephrology teams feel to identify and manage oral health concerns for their patients.

Method: An exploratory mixed-method survey was distributed across all 13 UK specialist paediatric nephrology centres with responses received from consultants, registrars, specialist nurses and special interest (SPIN) paediatricians.

Tofacitinib in pyoderma gangrenosum - A case series.

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare autoinflammatory disorder falling under the spectrum of neutrophilic dermatosis, characterized by distinctive skin ulceration which is non-infective, non-neoplastic and usually with no primary vasculitis. PG lesions are notorious for relapse and hence require multiple trials of medications often with prolonged and concomitant use of steroids. Due to lack of evidence-based studies on effective treatment options for PG, we have presented three isolated biopsy-proven PG cases who were successfully treated with Tofacitinib, a Janus kinase/signal transducers and activators of transcription (JAK/STAT) pathway inhibitor, without relapse in follow up.

Tofacitinib as monotherapy in cutaneous polyarteritis nodosa: a case series.

Objective: Cutaneous polyarteritis nodosa (CPAN) is a distinct clinical entity represented by a chronic, relapsing, benign course, with rare systemic involvement. Treatment is with CSs, CYC or other conventional synthetic DMARDs (csDMARDs). In this case series, we aimed to share our varied clinical experience of successfully treating patients with CPAN, with tofacitinib in a refractory/relapsing course or as upfront monotherapy without CSs/csDMARDs.

Provision and standards of care for treatment and follow-up of patients with Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH).

Background: Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a substantial UK health burden, but there is variation in care, facilities and in opinion regarding management. We conducted an audit of service provision and care of patients with AIH in 28 UK hospitals.

Methods: Centres provided information about staffing, infrastructure and patient management (measured against predefined guideline-based standards) via a web-based data collection tool.

Treatment and Outcome of Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH): Audit of 28 UK centres.

Background: With few data regarding treatment and outcome of patients with AIH outside of large centres we present such a study of patients with AIH in 28 UK hospitals of varying size and facilities.

Methods: Patients with AIH were identified in 14 University and 14 District General hospitals; incident cases during 2007-2015 and prevalent cases, presenting 2000-2015. Treatment and outcomes were analysed.

National Mental Health Survey of India, 2016 - Rationale, design and methods.

Understanding the burden and pattern of mental disorders as well as mapping the existing resources for delivery of mental health services in India, has been a felt need over decades. Recognizing this necessity, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, commissioned the National Mental Health Survey (NMHS) in the year 2014-15. The NMHS aimed to estimate the prevalence and burden of mental health disorders in India and identify current treatment gaps, existing patterns of health-care seeking, service utilization patterns, along with an understanding of the impact and disability due to these disorders.

Patterns and frequency of renal abnormalities in Fanconi anaemia: implications for long-term management.

Background: Fanconi anaemia (FA) is an inherited disease with bone marrow failure, variable congenital and developmental abnormalities, and cancer predisposition. With improved survival, non-haematological manifestations of FA become increasingly important for long-term management. While renal abnormalities are recognized, detailed data on patterns and frequency and implications for long-term management are sparse.

Simultaneous Bilateral Femur Neck Fracture in A Young Adult with Chronic Renal Failure- A Case Report and Review of Literature.

Introduction: Pathological bilateral femoral neck fracture due to renal osteodystrophy is rare. This is a report of a chronic renal failure patient who had sustained bilateral intra-capsular displaced fracture neck of femur following an episode of convulsion and the difficulties encountered in early diagnosis and treatment. The pathophysiology of renal osteodystrophy and the treatment of hip fractures in patients with renal failure are also discussed.

Risk factors, lipid profile, and histopathological study of oral cancers in Kolar district: a case-control study.

Aims: To estimate serum lipid profile in oral squamous cell carcinoma and correlate the risk factors and lipid profile with oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Materials And Methods: Lipid profile was done in agriculturists/laborers in the age group of 30-70 years; 56 subjects (cases = 28, control = 28) were included. Study was carried out for a duration of four months; statistical analyses applied were mean, standard deviation, and independent 't' test.

Risks of concomitant trauma to the knee in lower limb long bone shaft fractures: A retrospective analysis from a prospective study population.

Background: Numerous associated injuries (bony and/or soft tissue lesions) occur commonly in conjunction with fractures of the femoral shaft in young patients after high-energy injuries. Knee ligamentous injuries, historically called as the internal derangements of the knee or IDK, are mostly not visible in plain radiographs taken in the emergency and these injuries are likely to be overlooked by clinicians because first attention always goes to open wounds and radiologically visible injuries of the limb whenever a patient is received in a trauma unit.

Materials And Methods: A total of 93 cases of lower limb long bone fractures were retrospectively analyzed from materials of a prospective study conducted on consecutive patients having high-velocity injuries to lower limb long bones with a view to confirm or rule out concomitant ipsilateral IDK in cases of femoral and tibial shaft fractures, that already employed a policy of focused clinical examination followed by arthroscopy of the ipsilateral knee, immediately after operative fracture fixation under the same anesthesia.

An epidemiological study on children with syndromic hearing loss.

Clomipramine induced mania.

A case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder with no contributory or past history who developed delusional mania while on clomipramine is presented. The manic symptoms resolved after discontinuation of drug. The link between serotonin and mania is speculated upon.
