70%+ of youth and young adults experiencing homelessness (YYEH; 14-24 years old) smoke combustible tobacco. Little is known about the prevalence of acquired brain injury (ABI) among youth and young adult smokers experiencing homelessness (YYSEH) and its impact on tobacco use progression-the aim of our study. Through an interviewer-administered survey, YYSEH were asked about timing of tobacco use; exposure to causes of ABI; including brain oxygen deprivation (BOD; strangulation; accidental; choking games) and blunt force head trauma (BFHT; intentional; shaken violently; accidental); and perpetrators of intentional assault.

Using an international human rights framework, this study explores how tiny home villages have provided unhoused individuals with critical shelter necessary for preserving health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, while attending to the needs of social connection and community maintenance. The gaps and inadequacies of conventional shelter systems in the USA for people experiencing homelessness have been highlighted by COVID-19. Physical distancing can be challenging for people experiencing homelessness due to the crowded congregate shelters and encampments.

Background And Objectives: Literature suggests that funding for pediatric clinical trials is inequitably awarded. Furthermore, although coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) affected all hospitals, institutions with already limited resources were more severely impacted. We hypothesized that there would be difference in schools and hospitals that were able to participate in the initial round of pediatric COVID-19 clinical research.

The objective of the present study was to compare two commercially available blood-based pregnancy tests, namely BioPRYN, an ELISA for pregnancy-specific protein B (PSPB), and an ELISA for pregnancy-associated glycoprotein (PAG), for early pregnancy diagnosis in dairy cattle using transrectal ultrasonography as a gold standard. Transrectal ultrasonography was conducted 26-58 days after artificial insemination (AI) in 197 cattle from 19 farms. Concurrently, a blood sample was collected for determination of serum PSPB and PAG.

At Days 26 to 58 after AI, 138 Holstein-Friesian dairy cows were repeatedly examined by ultrasonography, using a 7.5 MHz linear-array rectal transducer. The total calving rate was 37.

The study aimed to compare plasma progesterone concentrations, rectal ultrasonography and plasma concentrations of pregnancy-specific protein B (PSPB) used for pregnancy diagnosis in reindeer. A total of 1,595 blood plasma samples were collected between 1991 and 1996 from 3 semidomestic reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus) herds on the Norwegian mainland (Magerøy, Sørøy, Filefjell) and from 92 wild Svalbard reindeer (Rangifer tarandus platyrhynchus). Samples were collected between January and late April.

Six hybrid pregnancies were established: three in sheep-goat chimaeras, one in a sheep-(sheep-goat)hybrid chimaera and two in does. Pregnancies were monitored weekly by ultrasonography and peripheral concentrations of pregnancy specific protein B (PSPB) were measured. Placental development as detected by ultrasonography appeared to be slower in hybrid-in-goat pregnancies than in hybrid-in-chimaera pregnancies, although this difference was not reflected in PSPB concentrations.

The objective of this study was to determine if pregnancy specific protein-B (PSPB) and estrone sulfate (E(1)SO(4)) could be used to determine pregnancy status in fallow deer (Dama dama ). Forty mature does were synchronized for estrus with an intravaginal progesterone-releasing device (CIDR) and then artificially inseminated via laparoscopy with frozen semen on one day. Ultrasound examination and jugular blood sampling were done 49 days later.

The accuracy and efficiency of progesterone (P4) and bovine pregnancy-specific protein B (bPSPB) radioimmunoassays (RIA) in detecting pregnant and nonpregnant dairy cows were compared at different stages of pregnancy. The study included 145 French Friesian heifers and cows from a single herd. A total of 175 artificial insemination (A.

We describe the reaction of fluorescein 5'-isothiocyanate with gizzard myosin, and investigate the effect of this fluorescent modification on ATPase activities. Changes in the ATPase activities upon modification occur rapidly, paralleling the reaction of 'fast reacting lysine residues' during the fast phase of the reaction. The loss in the ATPase activity is linearly correlated with the extent of modification.

A simple method for preparing myosin from porcine aortae is described. The procedure yields a highly pure myosin devoid of any obvious contaminants, such as tropomyosin and actin. The proteolysis of the heavy chain, frequently observed in the earlier procedures, is greatly minimized by the use of several protease inhibitors and by reducing the purification time.
