Article Synopsis
  • - The review discusses the role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in cancer, highlighting its potential to promote cancer cell growth and migration through specific receptor pathways like TrkB and p75NTR.
  • - Studies show that BDNF is overexpressed in several cancers ( prostate, lung, and breast), which is associated with poorer patient outcomes, suggesting that measuring BDNF levels could help in disease diagnosis and treatment response prediction.
  • - Current clinical research is focused on targeting BDNF receptors and their signaling pathways with various agents to potentially mitigate their oncogenic effects, but further trials are needed to thoroughly understand BDNF's role in cancer and explore it as a therapeutic target.

Background: Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers with a high rate of mortality. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have shown promising results in breast cancer treatment. However, the incidences of adverse events (AEs) and immune-related AEs (irAEs) due to ICIs have not been investigated comprehensively.

There is a long way to go before the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) outbreak comes under control. qRT-PCR is currently used for the detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the causative agent of Covid-19, but it is expensive, time-consuming, and not as sensitive as it should be. Finding a rapid, easy-to-use, and cheap diagnostic method is necessary to help control the current outbreak.
