Article Synopsis
  • Gum arabic is important in the food industry for its ability to stabilize and emulsify, and it also supports the growth of beneficial gut bacteria like Bifidobacterium.
  • The two types of gum arabic, Acacia senegal and A. seyal, both have a protein component called arabinogalactan protein (AGP), but they differ in their structure.
  • This research identifies a new enzyme that breaks down specific components of A. seyal gum, revealing its structure and showing how Bifidobacterium catenulatum can use these sugars for growth.

We investigated the prognostic value of cardiac myosin-binding protein C (cMyC), a novel cardiospecific marker, both independently and in combination with N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), for predicting 6-month all-cause mortality in patients without acute coronary syndrome (ACS) treated at medical (nonsurgical) cardiac intensive care units (CICUs). Admission levels of cMyC, high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT), and NT-proBNP were measured in 1032 consecutive patients (mean age; 70 years) without ACS hospitalized acutely in medical CICUs for the treatment of cardiovascular disease. Serum cMyC was closely correlated with hs-cTnT and moderately with NT-proBNP (r = 0.

Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is the most common type of joint disease in elderly people and is characterized by pain and dysfunction. Although the monoiodoacetate (MIA)-induced model is widely used as a rodent KOA model, it is important to acknowledge the inherent limitations of this model, as the MIA model develops complex pathological phases on a daily basis. An accurate understanding of this model and the selection of an appropriate time point according to the target for drug candidates can lead to the development of clinically effective drugs.

It is believed that oncolytic viruses (OVs) exert both direct anti-tumor effects by intratumoral injection as well as indirect anti-tumor effects by activating systemic immunity. In phase III clinical trials, OV and anti-programmed cell death-1 (aPD-1) antibody combination therapy showed no significant differences in overall survival and progression-free survival in patients with unresectable advanced melanoma. In the study, OVs can exert only indirect anti-tumor effects in non-injected, systemic lesions.
