Thanks to an environmentally friendly physical treatment of high purity graphite, a good control of the structure of graphene nanoparticles (GNPs) has been obtained with the production of stable and reproducible GNPs water dispersions. The preparation protocol entailed ball-milling of synthetic graphite followed by sonication in water and centrifugation/separation procedures. This way, two different GNPs samples with slightly different structural characteristics were harvested: TOP60, showing an average lateral size of the graphene layers  = 70 nm and average number of stacked layers  = 4, and BOTTOM60, with  = 120 nm and  = 6.

Cardiogenic shock with acute hemodynamic decompensation may be one of the most serious risks in patients affected by ventricular tachycardia (VT). Its proper identification may have important implications in terms of pharmacological management, as might procedural planning in case of patients undergoing catheter ablation. We describe a case series of patients with provisional strategies for circulatory support in VT ablation, including the use of venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) and vascular accesses in the electrophysiology lab but no initial ECMO activation due to an estimated intermediate pre-procedural risk from the case-series population.

We studied the effects of vertical vibrations on a water drop that was pinned to the sharp edges of a rectangular post. By varying the frequency and amplitude of the vertical displacement, distinct resonance peaks were observed using a simple optical technique. The vibrational spectra of the first two modes exhibited two closely spaced peaks, which corresponded to standing waves that exist along the major and minor contour lengths of the drops.

Background: Lack of Cytomegalovirus (CMV) knowledge among healthcare professionals has been proven to be the main threat to pregnant women's awareness, preventing them from reducing the risk of infection. The aims of this study were to assess the knowledge and practices of French-speaking Swiss perinatal professionals in terms of CMV prevention, as well as the sociodemographic-professional factors that influence them.

Cilia and flagella are slender cylindrical organelles whose bending waves propel cells through fluids and drive fluids across epithelia. The bending waves are generated by dynein motor proteins, ATPases whose force-generating activity changes over time and with position along the axoneme, the motile structure within the cilium. A key question is: where, in an actively beating axoneme, are the force-generating dyneins located? Answering this question is crucial for determining which of the conformational states adopted by the dynein motors generate the forces that bend the axoneme.

Drug-eluting nanoparticles (NPs) administered by an eluting balloon represent a novel tool to prevent restenosis after angioplasty, even if the selection of the suitable drug and biodegradable material is still a matter of debate. Herein, we provide the proof of concept of the use of a novel material obtained by combining the grafting of caffeic acid or resveratrol on a poly(lactide--glycolide) backbone (-CA-PLGA or -RV-PLGA) and the pleiotropic effects of fluvastatin chosen because of its low lipophilic profile which is challenging for the encapsulation in NPs and delivery to the artery wall cells. NPs made of such materials are biocompatible with macrophages, human smooth muscle cells (SMCs), and endothelial cells (ECs).

Background: In recent decades, obesity has widely emerged as an important risk factor for prostate cancer (PCa). Adipose tissue and PCa cells have been shown to orchestrate a complex interaction network to support tumor growth and evolution; nonetheless, the study of this communication has only been focused on soluble factors, although increasing evidence highlights the key role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in the modulation of tumor progression.

It was carried out in eight stages: translation from French into Brazilian Portuguese, cultural adaptation by a panel of experts, application of the first version (pilot test 1), adaptation by a panel of experts, application of the second version (pilot test 2), back translation, reviewing by a committee in conjunction with the author of the original instrument and, application of the final version.
