Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a standard minimally invasive technique for the treatment in gallstone disease. In difficult laparoscopic cholecystectomies, bailout strategies have been developed of which the fundus-first technique is one. The present study aims to compare the outcomes of the fundus-first technique against the standard laparoscopic approach in managing difficult cholecystectomy cases by focusing on intraoperative factors such as bleeding, bile duct injury, operative time, and postoperative complications like biliary leakage.

Introduction: The present study aims to observe the efficacy of submandibular gland excision vs. preservation during supraomohyoid neck dissection (SOHND) based on the postoperative outcomes for early oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) with clinically N0 neck and xerostomia.

Materials And Methods: A pilot study was conducted to observe the efficacy of preservation vs.

Curcumin is a nutraceutical known to have numerous medicinal effects including anticancer activity. However, due to its poor water solubility and bioavailability, the therapeutic impact of curcumin against cancer, including breast cancer, has been constrained. Encapsulating curcumin into chitosan nanoparticles (CHNPs) is an effective method to increase its bioavailability as well as antitumorigenic activity.

Objective: We studied the temporal course of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) dysfunction in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Methods: Three hundred and two patients (median age 54 years (interquartile range (IQR) 42-64), 76% males) were recruited. The HPA axis was evaluated by morning cortisol and adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) at admission (n = 232).

Introduction: Breast cancer incidence has overtaken that of cervical cancer among women in India according to the Globacon 2020 reports. Cancer management is also being streamlined at the Center and district levels, such that comprehensive integrated management is offered to cases to optimize the best results. In breast cancer, there are two modes of surgery namely Breast Conservation Surgery(BCS) and Modified Radical Mastectomy (MRM) now over 2 decades, with recommended Chemo radiation depending on the extent of the disease.

Background: With no unified system for tumor associated macrophages (TAMs) density assessment, limited information is available on their relationship with β-catenin expression.

Aim: To evaluate the density of CD68 TAMs in gastric adenocarcinoma samples by immunohistochemistry and correlate it with grade, stage, invasion, and beta-catenin.

Designs And Settings: Formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) blocks from gastrectomy specimens of proven gastric adenocarcinoma were prospectively and retrospectively were studied over a period of two years.

The rare combination of metallic conductivity and surface redox activity enables 2D MXenes as versatile charge storage hosts for the design of high-rate electrochemical energy storage devices. However, high charge density metal ions including but not limited to Ca and Mg pose challenges such as sluggish solid-state diffusion and also inhibiting the charge transfer across electrode-electrolyte interfaces. In this work, free-standing hybrid electrode architectures based on 2D titanium carbide-cationic perylene diimide (TiCT@cPDI) via supramolecular self-assembly are developed.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted in India to investigate sudden unexplained deaths among healthy young adults (ages 18-45) possibly linked to COVID-19 infection or vaccination from October 2021 to March 2023.
  • The research analyzed data from 729 cases and 2,916 matching controls, assessing factors like COVID-19 vaccination status, family history, substance use, and physical activity.
  • Results indicated that receiving at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose reduced the likelihood of sudden death, while factors such as past hospitalization for COVID-19, family history of sudden deaths, binge drinking, and intense physical activity increased the risk.

Context: Systematic assessment of skeletal muscle function is lacking in patients with nonsurgical hypoparathyroidism (HP). Whether muscle dysfunction involves respiratory muscles and results in restrictive lung disease (RLD) is not studied.

Objective: To assess skeletal muscle and pulmonary functions in patients with HP.

Background & Objectives: The association between hyperglycaemia at admission, diabetes mellitus (DM) status and mortality in hospitalized SARS-CoV-2 infected patients is not clear. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between DM, at-admission hyperglycaemia and 28 day mortality in patients admitted with moderate-severe SARS-CoV-2 infection requiring intensive care.

Methods: All consecutive moderate-to-severe patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection admitted to the intensive care units (ICUs) over six months were enrolled in this single-centre, retrospective study.

The Moth flame optimization (MFO) algorithm belongs to the swarm intelligence family and is applied to solve complex real-world optimization problems in numerous domains. MFO and its variants are easy to understand and simple to operate. However, these algorithms have successfully solved optimization problems in different areas such as power and energy systems, engineering design, economic dispatch, image processing, and medical applications.

Because of their superior problem-solving ability, nature-inspired optimization algorithms are being regularly used in solving complex real-world optimization problems. Engineering academics have recently focused on meta-heuristic algorithms to solve various optimization challenges. Among the state-of-the-art algorithms, Differential Evolution (DE) is one of the most successful algorithms and is frequently used to solve various industrial problems.

Background: The literature about the safety and feasibility of same-day discharge (SDD) following complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is scarce. The economic impact of SDD has not been evaluated in this geographical region. We in the present study evaluated the safety, feasibility, and economic impact of SDD following PCI at a tertiary care centre of north India.

With the advent of endovascular therapy, conventional angiography has replaced histology as a diagnostic gold standard for fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD). However, angiographic findings are not precisely diagnostic in isolated focal renal artery stenosis (RAS) in FMD. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging by reflecting in vivo histology may improve the diagnostic accuracy in such cases.

Central vein stenosis and thrombosis are frequent in patients on haemodialysis for end-stage renal disease. Its management includes anticoagulation, systemic or catheter-directed thrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). Use of mechanical thrombectomy in central vein thrombosis has been scarcely reported.

Objective: To describe the spectrum of neonatal diabetes mellitus (NDM), document new mutations, and review published Indian literature on the etiology of NDM.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of the clinical and genetic profile of 12 NDM patients.

Results: Eight patients presented with NDM before the age of 6 mo.

The exponential increase in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and increasing use of the transradial approach has set an ideal scenario for the cost-effective and relatively safe same-day discharge (SDD) policy in various institutes. We hereby report a single-center, prospective, observational study of 628 consecutive PCI patients, who had SDD or had overnight observation followed by next day discharge (NDD). Patients of chronic stable angina (CSA), unstable angina, and acute myocardial infarction (MI) were enrolled in the study.

Background: Transcatheter device closure is a safe procedure recommended in children with patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). While the standard procedure uses arterial and venous femoral access, it poses risk of vascular complications especially in young infants. Isolated venous approach has been tried in a few studies and was found to be non-inferior to the standard technique.
