Recent molecular and metagenomic studies have revealed that the obligate anaerobic protist Blastocystis is found more prevalently and with higher subtype diversities in herbivore species than in carnivore species. However, information on wild carnivore species is scarce. Here, we investigated the presence of Blastocystis by molecular methods in fecal DNA samples of free-ranging and captive Iberian lynxes from Spain (n = 243) and Portugal (n = 30).

Multimorbidity, the co-occurrence of two or more chronic conditions, poses a significant challenge on healthcare systems. Nonetheless, understanding of patients with multimorbidity, including the most common disease interactions, risk factors, and treatment responses, remains limited, particularly for complex and heterogeneous conditions like HF.

This work explored the possibility of using it in the production of fine paper as a wet-end component and for the paper coating. Filler-containing handsheet production was performed with and without the presence of common additives typically used in the furnish of office papers.

Method: Methodological research carried out in the following stages: literature review; national construction of items and content validation by experts in two stages, at regional level 9 and with 41 judges. For data analysis, the agreement rate per constructed item was determined.
Purpose: This paper aims to present the results of a series of several Brazilian institutions that have been carrying out lung cancer screening (LCS).
Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective, cohort study, with follow-up of individuals of both sexes, with a heavy smoking history, who participated in LCS programs between December 2013 and January 2021 in six Brazilian institutions located in the states of São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, and Bahia.
Results: Three thousand four hundred seventy individuals were included, of which 59.
The recent restrictions on mobility and economic activities imposed by governments due to the COVID-19 pandemic have significantly affected waste production and recycling patterns in cities worldwide. This effect differed both between cities and within cities as the measures of confinement adopted by governments had diverse impacts in different areas of cities, depending on their characteristics (e.g.

This paper describes the learning curve followed by student volunteer research subjects who used an alternative model for practicing vascular anastomosis.
Objectives: To evaluate the vascular anastomosis technique learning curve and development of manual skills using a low-cost experimental model.
Hepatitis C is considered a major public health problem caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV). Viral infections are known to induce production of IL1β through the signaling pathway of inflammasomes. Emerging evidences suggest that Inflammasome genes may influence the immune response against HCV as the host genetic background may contribute to the balance between acute and chronic inflammation.

Carnivores also hold high conservation value and their habitat requirements can guide management and conservation plans. The order Carnivora has 84 species from 8 families in the Neotropical region: Canidae; Felidae; Mephitidae; Mustelidae; Otariidae; Phocidae; Procyonidae; and Ursidae.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of the source and dose of soluble sugars, under controlled pH conditions, on the in vitro digestibility of DM, fibre fractions (NDF and ADF) and cell wall neutral monosaccharides of corn silage. Silage was collected from several points in a silage mass from a bunker silo, oven-dried at 55°C and ground through a 1-mm screen.

We report the case of a 44 year-old patient with complex ACHD, admitted with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) in hemodynamic profile B. He had a single ventricle with pulmonary atresia, previously submitted to three modified Blalock-Taussig shunts (mBTs) at the age of 2, 12 and 19 years old. Despite conventional treatment with diuretics, β-blockers (BB) and isosorbide dinitrate the patient progressed to profile C and the transthoracic echocardiogram disclosed a reduced systolic function.

In papermaking, it has been proved that harsh and expensive chemical pre-treatments to generate nanofibrils, such as TEMPO-mediated oxidation, are not the most favourable and therefore the use of cellulose microfibrils (CMF) have gained extra attention, especially those produced with the aid of enzymatic hydrolysis. In the present work, strategies to improve filler flocculation and the papermaking properties, by using enzymatic CMF, are provided.
