Background And Aim: In a previous follow-up of glaucoma patients taking carteolol or latanoprost, we found a greater progression of visual field changes with the prostaglandin than the betablocker. In the present study we compared the impact of carteolol and latanoprost on peripapillary vessel density in newly diagnosed primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) patients.
Methods: The study consisted of two groups of POAG patients.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to define the thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) in the peripapillary region of the retina after adjusting for the effect of vessel density (VD) in patients with pathological intraocular pressure (IOP).
Patients And Methods: 69 patients (122 eyes) with IOP >21 mmHg (range 21-36 mmHg, mean 23.65±2.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare changes in the conventionally undiagnosed distal nasal visual field with RNFL in patients with early primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).
Material And Methods: 59 eyes of 32 patients (18 women, 14 men) with early stage POAG were included. All eyes were found to have a normal visual field (fast threshold program of 50 degrees nasally and 22 degrees temporally) with the Medmont M700.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop software for the universal objective evaluation of factors influencing intraocular correction of astigmatism, such as decentration, tilt, axial position and angular orientation the toric intraocular lens (IOL).
Patients And Methods: Software was developed using the MS Visual Studio environment. The analysis was presented using images of 67 eyes with an implanted IOLs of the SN6ATx model series.
A practical demonstration of pH measurement in real biological samples with an in-house developed fiber-optic pH sensor system is presented. The sensor uses 8-hydroxypyrene-1,3,6-trisulfonate (HPTS) fluorescent dye as the opto-chemical transducer. The dye is immobilized in a hybrid sol-gel matrix at the tip of a tapered optical fiber.

Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the changes in IOL position (axial shift, tilt and decentration) in the capsular bag after Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy and to create a user-friendly software that is optimized for the output of available imaging technology, then verify the relationship between the biometric parameters of the eye and the extent of changes in the IOL position.
Patients And Methods: The study included 35 artephakic eyes that underwent laser capsulotomy. Before and at least one hour after capsulotomy, all patients underwent the following assessments: optical biometry (Lenstar LS900), OCT with anterior segment module (Optovue Avanti) and IOL photography in infrared mode using reference unit (Verion).
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the direction of view of the eye on the postoperative near visual acuity of patients with monofocal intraocular lens. A total of 121 eyes in which we performed conventional cataract surgery with implantation of a monofocal lens were included in the study group. The postoperative examination of near visual acuity was performed at two different positions of the eye at a constant distance from the reading table, with the assumption of improving visual acuity when looking perpendicularly to the plane of the floor.

Aims: The aim of this communication was to evaluate ranibizumab in the treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration.
Methods: Anonymised data on treatment efficacy and safety were consecutively entered into the Czech national database. From 01/09/2008 to 25/10/2011, 671 patients/685 eyes treated with ranibizumab monotherapy were entered in the registry.
Aim. To assess the significance of age, gender, baseline best corrected visual acuity, baseline macula thickness, and type and size of choroidal neovascularization in early morphological therapeutic response to ranibizumab treatment in patients with the wet form of age-related macular degeneration. Methods.

Methods: A retrospective multicentre evaluation of changes in the best-corrected visual acuity in applied kinds of therapy and a comparison with the cost of individual therapeutic procedures.
Results: An overall total of 788 eyes of 763 patients with an average age of 73.

Aims: To determine the effectiveness of second line treatments in patients with neovascular AMD who did not respond adequately to primary treatment.
Methods: Retrospective, multicentre assessment. The frequency of primary treatment failure and outcomes of subsequent secondary treatment were assessed according to the type of primary treatment, type of CNV and change in BCVA over a 12 month period.
