Unlabelled: Diverse haploid inducer lines with > 6% of haploid induction rate are now routinely used to develop doubled haploid lines. Though gene regulates haploid induction, its molecular characterization and haplotype analysis in maize and its related species have not been undertaken so far. In the present study, the entire 1812 bp long gene was sequenced among two mutant and eight wild-type inbreds.

Background: Four different designs of mini-implant-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) and protraction in nasomaxillary complex and mid-palatal sutures in late adolescent skeletal Class III malocclusion were compared using a three-dimensional finite element analysis.

Methods: A finite element model of skull and related sutures was constructed using the computed tomography scan of a 16-year-old female patient with skeletal Class III and ANB of -2°. Four appliance designs: Type I: MARPE with palatal force, Type II: MARPE with buccal force, Type III: Hybrid hyrax with palatal force, and Type IV: Hybrid hyrax with buccal force.

Shark is a seafood commodity that is a good source of minerals and accumulates heavy metals and trace elements through biomagnification, which can pose health risk if taken above the permissible limit. A study was conducted on commonly landed eleven shark species (Scoliodon laticaudus, Rhizopriodon oligolinx, Sphyrna lewini (CR), Carcharhinus macloti, Carcharinus limbatus, Carcharhinus amblyrhynchoides, Carcharhinus sorrah, Carcharinus falciformes(VU), Glaucostegus granulatus, Chiloscyllium arabicum, Loxodon macrorhinus) and analyzed for their heavy metal content, Hazard Index, Total Hazard Quotient, Metal Pollution Index, and also calculated the health risk associated with the consumption. Most of the heavy metals and trace minerals were found to be within the acceptable limit.

A relative of cultivated rice (Oryza sativa L.), weedy or red rice (Oryza spp.) is currently recognized as the dominant weed, leading to a drastic loss of yield of cultivated rice due to its highly competitive abilities like producing more tillers, panicles, and biomass with better nutrient uptake.

Introduction Breast lumps in any age group are addressed cautiously to exclude the possibility of breast cancer. The clinical approach to breast lumps involves the "triple test" for cancer screening. The triple test includes clinical examination, imaging (mammogram or ultrasonogram), and tissue sampling (fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and core needle biopsy).

Background: Temporary anchorage devices or mini implants have gained great attraction due to their capability to provide absolute anchorage, low cost, versatility, and can be loaded immediately after placement.

Material And Methods: Finite element analysis was used to evaluate the distribution of stress at the bone mini implant interface based on different angles of insertion (30°, 45°, 60°, and 90°) mini implant diameter (1.3 mm, 1.

Background: Temporary anchorage devices or mini-implants have gained great attraction due to its capability to provide absolute anchorage, low cost, versatility, and can be loaded immediately after placement.

Aims And Objectives: The aim of this study is to use FEA analysis to assess the strain and insertion torque of mini-implants on a bone model at two distinct angulations of 45° and 90°.

Materials And Methods: A computer-aided three-dimensional (3-D) model representing alveolar bone and mini-implants were developed using ANSYS software.

Background: In-vivo maternal haploids serve as the basis of doubled haploid (DH) breeding in maize. R1-navajo (R1-nj) gene governing anthocyanin colouration in the endosperm and embryo is widely used to identify haploid seeds. However, the expression of R1-nj depends on genetic-background of source-germplasm used for deriving DH-lines.

Information on the role of boron (B) on soil physico-chemical and biological entities is scarce, and the precise mechanism in soil is still obscure. Present field investigation aimed to assessing the implication of direct and residual effect of graded levels of applied-B on soil biological entities and its concomitant impact on crop productivity. The treatments comprised of five graded levels of B with four replications.

Background And Objectives: In type 2 diabetic subjects, psychological stress worsens glycemic regulation. This study put forward the various psychophysiological and biochemical benefits of the Integrated Amrita Meditation (IAM®) technique in type 2 diabetic subjects in achieving a better quality of life.

Methods: This was a clinical trial conducted in the Endocrinology department of Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences.

Unlabelled: Squalene, a triterpenoid compound is proven to possess immense bioactivities by virtue of its high antioxidant activity. The present study was designed to investigate the quality attributes of muffins as influenced by addition of encapsulated squalene. Nutritional analysis showed that calorific value of prepared muffins has ranged from 480.

In the current study, twenty-eight soil samples were collected from coalmine sites of Telangana, India. The isolates were purified and identified based on their culture characterization on oatmeal agar, glycerol asparagine agar, yeast extract-malt extract agar, inorganic salt starch agar, and starch casein agar medium. Further, the supernatant of all the isolates were tested for antimicrobial and antifungal activities.

Background & Objectives: Several studies on mind-body relaxation techniques have demonstrated a reduction in psychological stress levels. Implementation of such cost-effective, persons suffering from chronic disorders would be beneficial for the diabetic population. This study was undertaken to understand the effect of Integrated Amrita Meditation technique (IAM) technique on stress and its benefit in attaining a better glycaemic control.

Squalene, a triterpenoid compound possessing excellent bioactivities, is not being utilized as a functional food ingredient due to its high susceptibility to oxidation. In the present study, the feasibility of chitosan-whey protein as an efficient wall material for squalene encapsulation using spray drying technique was attempted for functional food applications. The encapsulation efficiency of the squalene powder was found to be 75.

The improvement of protein quality in maize so far has been based on recessive opaque2 (o2) mutant that along with endosperm-modifiers led to development of quality protein maize (QPM). Recent discovery of nutritional benefits of recessive opaque16 (o16) mutant was of immense significance for further improvement of protein quality. In the present study, o16 was introgressed into o2-based parental inbreds (HKI161, HKI193-1, HKI193-2 and HKI163) of four commercial QPM hybrids (HQPM-1, HQPM-4, HQPM-5 and HQPM-7) released in India, using marker-assisted backcross breeding.

The enhancement of lysine and tryptophan in maize is so far basedon opaque2(o2) mutant, that along with the endosperm-modifiersled to development of Quality Protein Maize[QPM]. Though many mutants improving the endospermic protein quality were discovered, they could not be successfully deployed. Recently discovered opaque16 (o16)mutant enhances the lysine and tryptophan content in maize endosperm.

The need for a rapid detection and characterization of biowarfare (BW) agents cannot be over emphasized. With diverse array of potential BW pathogen available presently, rapid identification of the pathogen is crucial, so that specific therapy and control measures can be initiated. We have developed a multiplex polymerase chain reaction based reverse line blot macroarray to simultaneously detect four pathogens of BW importance viz.

We present results of measurements of temperature and wavevector dependent dynamics in binary mixtures of soft polymer grafted nanoparticles and linear homopolymers. We find evidence of melting of the dynamically arrested state of the soft nanocolloids with addition of linear polymers followed by a re-entrant slowing down of the dynamics with further increase in polymer density, depending on the size ratio, δ, of the polymers and the nanocolloids. For higher δ the re-entrant behavior is not observed, even for the highest added polymer density, explored here.

The routine identification and differentiation of Brucella species is a time-consuming and labor-intensive process, which frequently places personnel at risk of laboratoryacquired infection. Here, we describe the development of a rapid multiplex PCR assay for the confirmation of presumptive Brucella isolates. The assay was able to identify and differentiate major human pathogens, namely B.
