Objective: The aim of this study was to retrospectively analyze the radiologic and functional results of patients with instable intertrochanteric femur fractures treated with Profin® nails.
Methods: This study included 32 patients (24 female, 8 male; mean age: 70.7 years; range: 65 to 96 years) who were treated with Profin® nails for instable intertrochanteric fractures.
Background. Postoperative peritoneal adhesions (PPAs) are an unsolved and serious problem in abdominal surgery. Method.

This study aimed to identify individuals who are at risk of heart failure and increased risk for cardiovascular events by evaluating endothelial function in patients with celiac disease.
Materials And Methods: The study included 36 patients with celiac disease and 35 healthy volunteers.
Hepatoportal sclerosis (HPS) is a syndrome of obscure etiology, and is one of the causes of noncirrhotic portal hypertension (PH). We aimed to investigate this heterogeneous group of patients whose presentation showed cholestatic features, histopathologically. Between 1999 and 2009, 12 children diagnosed with HPS were retrospectively evaluated.

Hematoma or abscess of the liver ligaments is extremely rare, and hematoma of the falciform ligament has been sporadically reported. We report the case of a 70-year-old female who presented with a three-day history of right upper quadrant abdominal pain, fever and nausea. With a preoperative diagnosis of probable perforated acalculous cholecystitis, the patient underwent emergency surgery.

Introduction: This prospective, randomized, controlled clinical study aimed to assess the perioperative and long-term results of primary inguinal hernia repair and to compare the results for a totally extraperitoneal (TEP) procedure with the results of patients undergoing darn plication.
Materials And Methods: For this study, 166 patients with unilateral inguinal hernias were randomly assigned to undergo either TEP (n=78) or darn plication (n=88).
Results: The mean operation time for darn plication (16±14.
Objectives: Epidemiological studies of celiac disease (CD) in Turkey have been performed only within some regions of the country. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of CD in Turkish school children.
Methods: Between 2006 and 2008, serum samples were collected from 20,190 students (age range, 6-17 years) in 139 schools in 62 cities from different regions of Turkey.

Objectives: The response to hepatitis A vaccine has not been studied in children with celiac disease (CD). The aim of the present study was to evaluate the immunogenicity of an inactivated hepatitis A virus (HAV) vaccine and the effect of the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) type on immunogenicity in children with CD.
Patients And Methods: Thirty-three patients with CD and 62 healthy controls were enrolled in the study.
Background: The etiology of postoperative hypocalcemia after total thyroidectomy appears to be multifactorial, that is, postoperative transient hypoparathyroidism, low 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25-OHD) concentrations, aging, and hyperthyroidism with increased bone turnover. Our aim was to evaluate the factors responsible for postoperative hypocalcemia in euthyroid vitamin D-deficient/insufficient Graves patients who underwent total thyroidectomy at our institution.
Methods: Thirty-five consecutive patients with Graves disease treated by total thyroidectomy were included in the present study.

The present study investigated whether the type of anoderm incision (vertical or parallel to the anus) affects wound healing, wound-related complications, incontinence, and recurrence rates in CAF patients undergoing open LIS.
Methods: This prospective randomized clinical study divided 52 patients undergoing LIS for CAF into two groups.
Background: Visceral obesity is one of the main components of the metabolic syndrome (MetS). The retroperitoneal fat area (RFA) is part of the intraabdominal adipose mass. The aim of this clinical trial was to determine whether there is an association between the RFA measurement and MetS components in patients undergoing laparoscopic lateral transabdominal adrenalectomy.
