Main chain assignments are described for a 266-residue subtilisin mutant, Sbt70, in its 35 kDa complex with an N-terminal prodomain. The assignments provide the basis for understanding how the prodomain assists folding of subtilisin at a residue-specific level.

Peripheral-type natural killer (NK)- or T-cell lymphomas are rare disorders characterized with clonal proliferation of mature lymphocytes. They have been linked to chronic and active Epstein-Barr virus infection (CAEBV), which itself is not defined as a malignant hematological disorder. The authors present a patient with T/NK-cell lymphoma involving skin, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, and meninges.

It was originally annotated as a shorter 85-residue protein, but a more detailed sequence analysis conducted in our laboratory revealed that the full-length protein has an additional 43 residues on the C terminus, corresponding with a region initially ascribed to HI1507. As part of a larger effort to understand the functions of hypothetical proteins from Gram-negative bacteria, and H.

Thirty-one patients (22 female, nine male) were randomly divided into three groups following the stabilization of an acute asthma attack. The control group that is an additional group to the three patient groups consisted of 10 healthy volunteers (five female, five male).

In free subtilisin, amide protons can be categorized according to exchange rate: 74 fast exchangers (rates > or = 1 h(-1)); 52 medium exchangers (rates between 1 h(-1) and 1 day(-1)); 31 slow exchangers (rates between 1 day(-1) and 0.001 day(-1)).

Infantile hemangioendothelioma is the most common hepatic vascular tumor in infants less than 6 months of age, with a prevalence of 1%. Serum alpha-fetoprotein levels have been used as an important tumor marker for hepatoblastoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, and germ cell tumors. It is rarely elevated in hepatic hemangioendothelioma.

The limited amino acid sequence variation among GA modules results in structural and functional differences with possible implications for bacterial pathogenesis and host specificity. In particular, the streptococcal G148-GA3 and F.

We studied electroencephalogram (EEG), visual evoked potential (VEP) and brain-stem auditory evoked response (BAER) in seven children with glutaric aciduria type I (GA1) to assess the neurophysiologic features in this rare inborn error of metabolism. Age at the time of the diagnosis ranged between 3 months and 36 months.

Acute renal failure at initial presentation due to lymphomatous infiltration of the kidneys has been described infrequently. We report a 17-year-old male who presented with acute renal failure due to massive lymphomatous infiltration of the kidneys, which necessitated hemodialysis.

Structures of the Schiff bases were proven by 1H-NMR. In vitro activities against some Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus polymyxa) and Gram-negative (Escherichia coli) bacteria and the fungus Candida albicans were determined.

This paper provides new insights about the quality consequences of this dynamic in US hospital markets. I empirically investigate the impact of managed care and hospital competition on quality using in-hospital complications as quality measures.

The ensemble of NMR-derived structures shows a well-ordered core consisting of a four-stranded antiparallel beta-sheet with two alpha-helices packed against one side of this sheet. Sequence homology suggests that the other eukaryotic PC pro-domains will have the same overall fold and most of the residues forming the hydrophobic core of PC1 are highly conserved within the PC family.

Dr Lellouch, the secretary of ISHM, originally suggested that I address the subject of Turkish-French relations by means of an essay in Vesalius. This led me to consider a wider ranging paper on Ottoman-European relations.

What do consumers pay for pharmaceuticals in a transition economy, and who is hit hardest? Kazakhstan is in the midst of emerging from a Soviet Union state to a market economy. It has seen a significant dip in Gross Domestic Product and available revenues for health as a result. New sources of revenues, such as out-of-pocket payments, both formal and informal, have become widespread.

Complete 1H and 13C NMR assignments have been generated, and the 13C spin-lattice relaxation times have been measured for the octasaccharide 2. A congener (6) of this octasaccharide containing one D-galactose residue with a specific 13C label at C-1 has been synthesized and used to measure interglycosidic 13C-1H coupling by the 2D J-resolved 1H NMR method.

We have characterized the structure and dynamics of the acid-denatured state of protein G by using a F30H mutant of G(B1) which is on the margin of stability. At 5 degrees C, F30H-G(B1) is greater than 95% folded at pH 7.

These data were analyzed by using a model-free dynamics formalism to determine the generalized order parameters (S2), the effective correlation time for internal motions (tau e), and the 15N exchange broadening contributions (Rex) for each residue, as well as the overall correlation time (tau(m)).
