Disease models enable researchers to investigate, test, and identify therapeutic targets that would alter the patients’ disease condition and improve quality of life. Advances in genetic alteration and analytical techniques have enabled rapid development of disease models using preclinical animals and cell cultures. However, success rates of drug development remain low due to limited recapitulation of clinical pathophysiology by these models.

Large-size woody biomass is a valuable renewable resource to replace fossil fuels in biorefinery processes. The preprocessing of wood chips and briquettes is challenging to manage, especially in an industrial setting, as it generates a significant amount of dust and noise and occasionally causes unexpected accidents. As a result, a substantial amount of resources, energy, labor, and space are needed.

Embryonic hyperglycemia negatively impacts retinal development, leading to abnormal visual behavior, altered timing of retinal progenitor differentiation, decreased numbers of retinal ganglion cells and Müller glia, and vascular leakage. Because synaptic disorganization is a prominent feature of many neurological diseases, the goal of the current work was to study the potential impact of hyperglycemia on retinal ribbon synapses during embryonic development. Our approach utilized reverse transcription quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and immunofluorescence labeling to compare the transcription of synaptic proteins and their localization in hyperglycemic zebrafish embryos, respectively.

The rise in the use of single-use plastics and personal protective equipment (PPE) has increased plastic waste in the marine environment. In this study, we surveyed the presence of PPE (face masks and gloves) discharged in 6 beaches along the coast of India. A total of 496 PPE were counted with an average density of 1.

Waste recycling is one of the key aspects in current day studies to boost the country's circular economy. Recycling wood from construction and demolished structures and combining it with plastics forms wood-polymer composites (WPC) which have a very wide scope of usage. Such recycled composites have very low environmental impact in terms of abiotic potential, global warming potential, and greenhouse potential.

Background: Accumulating evidence has established a role for the orexigenic hormone ghrelin in alcohol-seeking behaviors. Accordingly, the ghrelin system may represent a potential pharmacotherapeutic target for alcohol use disorder. Ghrelin modulates several neuroendocrine pathways, such as appetitive, metabolic, and stress-related hormones, which are particularly relevant in the context of alcohol use.

In view of increasing anthropogenic influences and global changes, quantification of carbon assimilation through photosynthesis has gained tremendous significance. Precise estimation of Gross Primary Productivity (GPP) is essential for several ecosystem models and is typically done using coarser scale satellite data. The mangrove ecosystem, which offers significant protection to the coastal environment, is one of the critical habitats from a global change point of view.

Both animal and human work suggests that the ghrelin system may be involved in the mechanisms that regulate the development and maintenance of alcohol use disorder. Previously, in a Phase 1b study, we tested pharmacological blockade of the growth hormone secretagogue receptor 1a (GHS-R1a, also known as the ghrelin receptor), in heavy drinking individuals with PF-5190457, an orally bioavailable, potent and selective GHS-R1a inverse agonist. We report here the effects of PF-5190457 on endocrine blood concentrations of amylin, gastric inhibitory polypeptide, glucagon-like peptide 1, insulin, leptin, pancreatic polypeptide, peptide YY, thyroid stimulating hormone, free triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), cortisol, prolactin, and glucose during PF-5190457 dosing, as compared to placebo, in absence of alcohol as well as during an alcohol challenge when PF-5190457 was on steady-state.

Background: Enzyme-mediated biotransformation of pharmacological agents is a crucial step in xenobiotic detoxification and drug disposition. Herein, we investigated the metabolism and physicochemical properties of the top 200 most prescribed drugs (established) as well as drugs approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) between 2005 and 2016 (newly approved).

Objective: Our objective was to capture the changing trends in the routes of administration, physicochemical properties, and prodrug medications, as well as the contributions of drug-metabolizing enzymes and transporters to drug clearance.

The aim of this article is to assess Tamil Nadu pediatric computed tomography (CT) diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) by collecting radiation dose data for the most commonly performed CT examinations. This work was performed for thirty CT scanners installed in various parts of the Tamil Nadu region. The patient cohort was divided into two age groups: <1 year, and 1-5 years.

Members of the pennellid genus Lernaeenicus Lesueur, 1824 (Copepoda, Siphonostomatoida) have frequently been recorded from commercially important fishes collected along the coasts of India. Marine fish hosts from landing centres at Nagapattinam and Parangipettai Tamil Nadu, southeast coast of India, were examined for parasitic copepods between January 2011 and December 2013. A total of nine species including three unidentified species of Lernaeenicus were recorded: (1) L.

Low cost and eco-friendly green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from silver nitrate (AgNO) using Prunus japonica leaves extract as reducing agent by a simple method at room temperature. The biosynthesized nanoparticles (NPs) were characterized by UV-Vis, tunneling electron microscopy (HR-TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with X-ray energy dispersive spectrophotometer (EDAX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). In UV-Vis spectroscopy results, the λ was observed at 441 nm.

In the present work, a pediatric head and body phantom was fabricated using polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) at a low cost when compared to commercially available phantoms for the purpose of computed tomography (CT) dosimetry. The dimensions of head and body phantoms were 10 cm diameter, 15 cm length and 16 cm diameter, 15 cm length, respectively. The dose from a 128-slice CT machine received by the head and body phantom at the center and periphery were measured using a 100 mm pencil ion chamber and 150 mm CT dose profiler (CTDP).

We evaluated the neuropharmacological effects of 30% ethanolic pine needle extract (PNE) on memory impairment caused by scopolamine injection in mice hippocampus. Mice were orally pretreated with PNE (25, 50, and 100 mg/kg) or tacrine (10 mg/kg) for 7 days, and scopolamine (2 mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally, 30 min before the Morris water maze task on first day. To evaluate memory function, the Morris water maze task was performed for 5 days consecutively.

Enhanced oral bioavailability of aceclofenac has been achieved using chitosan cocrystals of aceclofenac and its entrapment into alginate matrix a super saturated drug delivery system (SDDS). Prepared SDDS were evaluated by various physiochemical and pharmacological methods. The result revealed that the primary cocrystals enhanced the solubility of the drug and the thick gelled polymer matrix that formed from swelling of calcium alginate beads makes it to release the drug in continuous and sustained manner by supersaturated drug diffusion.

Computed tomography (CT) scanner under operating conditions has become a major source of human exposure to diagnostic X-rays. In this context, weighed CT dose index (CTDIw), volumetric CT dose index (CTDIv), and dose length product (DLP) are important parameter to assess procedures in CT imaging as surrogate dose quantities for patient dose optimization. The current work aims to estimate the existing dose level of CT scanner for head, chest, and abdomen procedures in Pudhuchery in south India and establish dose reference level (DRL) for the region.
