Space exploration and research are uncovering the potential for terrestrial life to survive in outer space, as well as the environmental factors that affect life during interplanetary transfer. The presence of methane in the Martian atmosphere suggests the possibility of methanogens, either extant or extinct, on Mars. Understanding how methanogens survive and adapt under space-exposed conditions is crucial for understanding the implications of extraterrestrial life.

Photoelectrochemical detection of nucleic acid-based cancer biomarkers offers opportunities for highly sensitive, selective, and fast quantitative detection using low-cost measurement instruments. In order to establish itself as a standard method for identifying and quantifying nucleic acids, we have developed a multiplexing strategy using LED technology for photoelectrochemical detection in 96 samples simultaneously. A dedicated setup based on the 96-well plate configuration with a custom-made 96-well LED array was developed.

Dysregulation of miRNA expression occurs in many cancers, making miRNAs useful in cancer diagnosis and therapeutic guidance. The current work, designed for the photoelectrochemical detection of DNA, evaluates light-responsive DNA probes carrying molecular photosensitizers generating singlet oxygen (O). We take advantage of their chromophore's ability to produce O upon photoexcitation and subsequent photocurrent response. Type I, fluorescent and type II photosensitizers were studied using diode lasers at 406 nm blue, 532 nm green and 659 nm red lasers in the presensce and absence of a redox reporter, hydroquinone (HQ).

Putrescine (1,4-diaminobutane) a biologically active diamine has been found to be a valuable analyte for several clinical and analytical purposes. The present work deals with diamine oxidase immobilized on iron oxide nanoparticles for quantifying the amount of putrescine produced, by the decarboxylation of ornithine, which is converted into hydrogen peroxide by the enzyme diamine oxidase (DAO). This reaction can be quantified using electrochemical techniques, which forms the basis of this work.
