Background: Obstructive cholestasis can lead to significant alterations of the biliary tree depending on the extent and duration of the biliary occlusion. Current experimental studies reported about advanced techniques for corrosion cast and 3D reconstruction (3D-reco) visualizing delicate microvascular structures in animals. We compared these two different techniques for visualization and quantitative assessment of the obstructed murine biliary tree with classical 2D histology.
