Patients diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are most commonly diagnosed in late adolescence or early adulthood, with half of patients being diagnosed before age 32, thus impacting peak years of reproduction and family planning. While controlled IBD has no negative effects on the ability to conceive, there is overall a trend towards voluntary childlessness due to patients' concerns for adverse fetal outcomes from underlying IBD and from adverse medication effects. Active disease at the time of conception is associated with worsening disease activity during pregnancy and carries a higher risk of poor fetal outcomes.

Introduction: The prevalence of celiac disease (CD) in the US has increased in past decades, as has use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), histamine-2-receptor antagonists (H2RAs), aspirin (ASA) and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). We aimed to measure the association between medication use and distribution of villous flattening (VF) among newly diagnosed CD patients.

Background: Serologic testing for celiac disease includes tissue transglutaminase and endomysial antibodies. In addition to these tools, assays for deamidated gliadin peptide antibodies have been shown to have sensitivity and specificity that are comparable to tissue transglutaminase testing, and are increasingly being used for celiac disease testing.

Aims: The goal of this study is to evaluate the utility of deamidated gliadin peptide (DGP) testing in the setting of a negative tissue transglutaminase (TTG) IgA test.

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder induced by gluten in genetically susceptible individuals. It can result in intraintestinal and extraintestinal manifestations of disease including diarrhea, weight loss, anemia, osteoporosis, or lymphoma. Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) has steadily increased in incidence since the 1990s, with an associated increase in recurrence and severity, which has in turn lead to more intensive care unit (ICU) admissions. The development of recurrent CDI, in particular, has been associated with increasing patient morbidity and mortality as well as an immense financial burden on the health care system. Recently, fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) has received much publicity as an effective means of treatment for recurrent CDI.
