Article Synopsis
  • Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare disorder marked by the abnormal buildup of dendritic histiocytes in tissues, often presenting as single- or multi-system diseases, particularly affecting adults.
  • In a reported case, a 46-year-old woman experienced back pain, motor and sensory deficits, and was diagnosed with a compression fracture in the spine, alongside signs of central nervous system and salivary gland involvement.
  • The patient underwent surgical intervention that included decompression and a biopsy, confirming the presence of LCH, highlighting the complexity and rarity of adult-onset LCH with extensive system involvement.

Silybum marianum, known as milk thistle (MT), is traditionally used to manage liver diseases. This study aimed to investigate the role of MT extract topical application as a potential treatment for imiquimod (IMQ)-induced psoriatic lesions in mice with particular emphasis on phosphoinositol-3 Kinase (PI3K)/ protein kinase B (AKT)/ mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (KEAP1)/ nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor (NRF2)/ nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) molecular cascades involvement. To address this aim, forty male Swiss albino mice were subdivided into four groups (n = 10 mice/group): control, IMQ model, standard group where mice were treated topically with IMQ, then the anti-psoriatic mometasone cream, and MT extract-treated group where mice were treated topically with IMQ followed by MT extract.

Article Synopsis
  • Status epilepticus (SE) is a serious neurological condition with a significant health impact, necessitating the exploration of novel treatments like the DPP-4 inhibitor alogliptin (ALO), known for its neuroprotective properties.
  • The study investigated ALO's potential in a rat model of SE induced by lithium/pilocarpine, where it was administered for 14 days before SE was triggered, using levetiracetam as a control.
  • Results indicated that ALO not only decreased seizure severity and neurodegeneration but also positively affected neurotransmitter levels, activated neuroprotective pathways, reduced inflammation, and promoted autophagy, suggesting ALO as a promising therapeutic option for managing SE.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1) is the most common neurocutaneous syndrome. It is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner, with many patients having the syndrome as the result of a de novo mutation. NF-1 is caused by a mutation in the NF-1 gene located on the chromosome 17q11.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection currently remains one of the biggest global challenges that can lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome (CARDS) in severe cases. In line with this, prior pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is a risk factor for long-term respiratory impairment. Post-TB lung dysfunction often goes unrecognized, despite its relatively high prevalence and its association with reduced quality of life.

Objectives: As one of the most frequent worldwide neurological disorders, epilepsy is an alteration of the central nervous system (CNS) characterized by abnormal increases in neuronal electrical activity. The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signalling pathway has been investigated as an interesting objective in epilepsy research. Vinpocetine (VNP), a synthesized derivative of the apovincamine alkaloid, has been used in different cerebrovascular disorders.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a pervasive issue that is underreported to law enforcement. One reason why individuals do not report their victimization stems from a perceived lack of support from law enforcement officials. However, law enforcement perceptions of IPV are largely unknown as the empirical literature on this topic is both limited and dated.
