Introduction: Preoperative templating in hip arthroplasty surgery is crucial for accurate implant selection and reducing postoperative complications. This study examines whether there is a correlation between femoral head size and shoe size, with the aim of simplifying the preoperative planning process.
Methods: A total of 14 patients had their shoe size and femoral head size measured.
Background: Soft-tissue attachment is crucial for the success of megaprosthesis surgery and improvement in current treatment is needed. The aim of this study was to compare the biomechanical and histomorphometric properties of soft-tissue attachment between 3D printed Ti6Al4V implants featuring a 630 μm microporous structure and commercially available Trevira® implants with a 200 μm porous structure in a non-loadbearing ovine model.
Methods: Ten skeletally mature ewes underwent surgical implantation with both implants.
Background And Purpose: Concerns have emerged regarding elevated levels of cobalt and chromium in patients with metal-on-metal megaprostheses. This prospective study aims to identify systemic cobalt and chromium levels in metal-on-polyethylene knee and hip megaprostheses and their associations with other factors.
Methods: 56 patients underwent knee or hip megaprosthesis surgery at 2 sarcoma centers.
Background: The poor response of metastatic osteo- and chondrosarcomas to chemotherapy could be the result of multidrug resistance (MDR), which may be overcome through the use of small interfering RNA (siRNA). However, several methodologic questions remain unresolved.
Aims: To test the toxicity of three commonly used siRNA transfection reagents and apply the least toxic reagent to investigate the siRNA-induced MDR1 mRNA knockdown.
In this case report, a 53-year-old female with a pathological subtrochanteric femur fracture received a cemented resection tumour prosthesis. The patient was post-operatively diagnosed with Purtscher's retinopathy due to fat embolisation. Purtscher's retinopathy has previously been described in trauma patients, however, no previous reports exist with patients treated with prosthesis.
