Article Synopsis
  • Occupational Therapists have highlighted the need for organized, evidence-based resources to guide driving decisions for patients recovering from stroke.
  • The Practice Resource for Driving After Stroke (PReDAS) was created to aid healthcare professionals in making informed decisions about a patient's ability to return to driving post-stroke.
  • A pilot study showed that OTs, physicians, and patients found the PReDAS helpful for decision-making, with many patients recalling the advice given in acute care and choosing not to drive as recommended.

Richter syndrome (RS) of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is typically chemoresistant, with a poor prognosis. We hypothesized that the oral Bcl-2 inhibitor venetoclax could sensitize RS to chemoimmunotherapy and improve outcomes. We conducted a single-arm, investigator-sponsored, phase 2 trial of venetoclax plus dose-adjusted rituximab, etoposide, prednisone, vincristine, cyclophosphamide, and doxorubicin (VR-EPOCH) to determine the rate of complete response (CR).

Carbonic anhydrases are a family of enzymes that catalyze the reversible condensation of water and carbon dioxide to carbonic acid, which spontaneously dissociates to bicarbonate. Carbonic anhydrase III (Car3) is nutritionally regulated at both the mRNA and protein level. It is highly enriched in tissues that synthesize and/or store fat: liver, white adipose tissue, brown adipose tissue, and skeletal muscle.

Background: Disease-related symptoms impair the quality of life of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) who do not require systemic therapy. Available therapies are not specifically aimed at symptom control. Because stimulation of the B-cell receptor activates JAK2 in CLL cells and the JAK2 inhibitor ruxolitinib improves symptoms in patients with myelofibrosis, we postulated that ruxolitinib would improve disease-related symptoms in patients with CLL.

Product analytics is the bottleneck of most processes in bioprocess engineering, as it is rather time-consuming. Real-time and in-line product tracing without sample pre-treatment is only possible for few products. The Cherry-Tag™ (Delphi Genetics, Belgium) which can be fused to any target protein allows for straightforward product analytics by VIS absorption measurements.

Unlabelled: Whether dietary fiber protects against colorectal cancer is controversial because of conflicting results from human epidemiologic studies. However, these studies and mouse models of colorectal cancer have not controlled the composition of gut microbiota, which ferment fiber into short-chain fatty acids such as butyrate. Butyrate is noteworthy because it has energetic and epigenetic functions in colonocytes and tumor-suppressive properties in colorectal cancer cell lines.
